BWHS Launches Hallow App

As you may have heard from your student, Bishop Watterson has partnered with Hallow, the #1 Catholic prayer platform to provide Hallow as a resource to strengthen both the mental and spiritual health of the school community.

Hallow contains more than 10,000 audio-guided prayers spanning from quick minute meditations to entire holy hours, dozens of music albums and prayer lists, and everything in between. The app is specifically designed to offer something for everyone, and at Bishop Watterson we’ll use Hallow in our classrooms to help build virtue, incorporate prayer into every day and learn about the saints and history of the church.

We invite parents to join us in utilizing the Hallow app to grow your own prayer life with a free 90-day membership.

1. Go to https://access.hallow.com/redeem/code

2. Enter the following promo code: BishopWattersonOH90days

Worth Repeating

Semester Finals Attendance

With semester exams approaching before our Christmas break, we wanted to remind parents of our policy from our Student Handbook:

Testing and Absence –Semester Final Exams

Students must be present during all scheduled finals. The only excused absence is one due to extreme illness. A doctor’s note is required for verification. If a student is ill and needs to reschedule an exam, they must contact Vice Principal Heather Law, mrs.law@bwhs.org, for permission and arrangements. Exams will not be rescheduled for vacations, club sports, etc. Absences due to reasons other than illness may result in the student receiving 80% of the grade earned.

Please examine our finals schedule closely and plan vacations accordingly. Inform family members, club coaches, employers, parish leaders working on service trips, retreats, etc. that students are not available until exams are over. Please do not schedule doctor’s appointments, elective surgery, etc. during this time.

We have made an adjustment to our semester finals schedule for this first semester. All non-core/elective classes will give 45-minute finals the week of December 9. This includes Music, PE, Arts, Health, Social Studies electives, English electives, Business and Computer.

Core classes and all AP classes will still give 90-minute finals the week of December 16. This includes English, Foreign Language, Math, Science, Social Studies and Theology.

Monday, December 9: Mass

Tuesday, December 10: Music, Arts, PE

Wednesday, December 11: No finals due to early release schedule

Thursday, December 12: Health, Business, Computer Science

Friday, December 13: Social Studies and English electives

Monday, December 16: 1st and 2nd core/AP

Tuesday, December 17: 3rd and 4th core/AP

Wednesday, December 18: 5th and 6th core/AP

Thursday, December 19: 7th and 8th core/AP

School Closure Notifications

Winter will be on the way soon, so we wanted to share how families are notified in the event school is cancelled for weather-related reasons, as well as for any unforeseen reason. For weather-related closures listed in local media, Bishop Watterson follows the Diocese of Columbus.

We use the School Messenger system to send a phone message to parent cell phones on file with the school office. We will also announce the closure through our social media accounts.

Mothers' Club Corner, part 2

Staff Appreciation - Mini Loaves of Bread

Please join the Bishop Watterson Mothers Club in our tradition of giving all BWHS staff and teachers a homemade loaf of bread to thank them for their service. We are asking for MINI loaves of HOMEMADE quick breads (banana, pumpkin, lemon, etc.) for the teachers. Bread will be given to teachers before the Thanksgiving break. PLEASE NOTE IF YOUR BREAD MEETS SPECIFIC ALLERGY NEEDS (contains nuts, gluten-free, plant-based, etc.)

WHAT: FOUR mini loaves of your favorite quick bread - MINI loaves are approximately 6” x 3” x 2” INDIVIDUALLY WRAPPED AND LABELED, PLEASE! Include recipe to share if homemade.

WHY: As a gesture of gratitude for BWHS teachers and staff

WHERE: BWHS front office AND drop-off bins at Dominican Hall & Cooke Rd. entrances

WHEN: Monday, November 25 during school hours

Vape Detectors Installed

Earlier in the school year we shared that we would be installing vape detectors in an effort to discourage vaping use. The detectors have now been installed in bathrooms used by students. When there is vaping in those bathrooms we receive electronic notification. Students caught vaping will be subject to disciplinary action per our Student Handbook.

Eucharistic Adoration

Parents Are Invited to Join Us

One of the efforts to nurture and encourage the spiritual life of our students here at Bishop Watterson is weekly exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. Each week, a grade is assigned to spend some time in silent prayer before the Blessed Sacrament during Theology class. On Wednesdays, we expose the Blessed Sacrament at 7:30 a.m. and remain in prayer until Benediction at 1:30 p.m. We would like to invite parents to join us. Eucharistic Adoration will be held in Dominican Hall until the chapel expansion and renovation is completed this fall.

If you have completed the “Protecting God’s Children” requirements of the Diocese and are interested in joining us for prayer, please click on the button below to sign-up for a particular Holy Hour.

We would like to thank you for your cooperation with this effort and we look forward to your joining us.
