PWP'S TIPS FOR EMERGENCY PREPARATION
Are you and your loved ones ready in case a natural disaster or emergency strikes? After a major disaster, some customers may not have water or power service for days. Residents should always be prepared to be without electricity or tap water for an extended period of time. Here are some tips to help you be prepared:

  • Stock emergency kits with enough food, water, weather protection and hygiene/medical supplies for at least 72 hours.
  • Store 1 gallon of water per person per day, and don’t forget to store food and water for pets.
  • Always keep fresh batteries, flashlights, ice chests, battery powered radios and manual hand cranks or car chargers ready in case of an extended power outage.
  • Review your emergency communications and shelter plans with family, friends, coworkers and neighbors.
  • Sign up for PWP’s Outage Management System. Register by calling (626) 744-4005.

ORANGE GROVE PIPELINE PROJECT UPDATE
PWP crews began work on the Orange Grove Pipeline Project in February 2019. This project focuses on replacing older water distribution pipes. Water crews will complete Phase I in August 2019 with the installation of a new 8-inch and 12-inch main from Sunset Ave to Los Robles Ave.

Phase II of the project will focus on installing a new 24-inch pipeline from Fair Oaks Ave to Palo Verde Ave. This work will begin in mid-July 2019 and is expected to be completed by March 2020. To minimize impact, construction efforts are contained to approximately one block at a time.

Public Works will be repaving and restriping Orange Grove once the project is complete.
WATERING IN A HEAT WAVE
When hot weather strikes, your plants and shrubs will experience stress and may wilt. You can protect and prepare your plants by watering them before the heat wave arrives. This prepares the soil and allows plants to better absorb water. Here are some tips to help:

  • Water early in the morning or after the sun has set, this is when trees and plants replace the water they’ve lost during the day. It also helps prevent water loss to evaporation.
  • Mulching your tree will help keep soils warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.
  • Water should soak into the ground rather than running off into the drain or sidewalk.
  • Deep watering helps deep root growth and promotes healthier trees.
