Waukegan Township News
May 2023
We are thrilled to announce an unprecedented inter-governmental agreement with Shields Township! This agreement effectively removes our southern border of 18th Street in North Chicago, allowing all Shields Township residents to now be eligible to apply for Waukegan Township Emergency Assistance.
These services will be extended to residents throughout the entire city of North Chicago, as well as Knollwood, Lake Bluff and Lake Forest. With the expansion of our borders, we will introduce a satellite office in the heart of North Chicago within the next 30 days.

Waukegan Township Facilities Undergo a Facelift:
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Illinois Senator Adriane Johnson for the Capital Improvement grant that was provided to the Patricia A. Jones Center, Eddie Washington Center and the Staben House. Also, Legat Architects, Inc. & Manusos General Contracting, Inc. for the wonderful work that was done on each of these facilities.
Patricia A. Jones Center
In February 2022, we underwent major renovations! Out with old and in with the new flooring, ceiling tiles, window treatments and HVAC units. Now the beauty of our facility matches our upgrades programs and services, here at the Patricia A. Jones Center.

Staben House
To better serve our residents and visitors to the Staben House, we are proud to announce that our renovation projects are near completion. We are excited to present a new roof, upgraded bathrooms and electrical, and a new driveway which complements the 93-year-old structures facelift. A new playground, which multiple donors contributed to, was installed during the fall. This donation will delight Staben House children for years to come.

Eddie Washington Center
The Eddie Washington Center is also nearing completion on it renovations also. These renovations include new restrooms for the residents, new flooring, ceiling tiles and a new driveway. We’re excited about the renovations to the facility and have provided photos so that you’re able to view our updates: Before and after.

Waukegan Township Expands Resources:
Here at Waukegan Township, we pride ourselves on striving to meet the needs of each of our community members. To be successful, it must be understood that it takes a village…. and we truly appreciate those that are part of ours.

With that, we are extremely excited to announce a new member to the Township family! Effective Monday, April 17th, Waukegan Township’s Supervisor’s Office was made home to the satellite office of United States Congressman Brad Schneider and his staff. Congressman Schneider will join State Senator Adriane Johnson, Mano-A-Mano Family Resource Center and Coalition Legal (expungement and sealing), in occupying a satellite office within the Supervisor’s Office.

In addition to the satellite offices, we continue to offer General and Emergency assistance; rental and utility assistance; as well as Passport services - all located within the Waukegan Township Supervisor’s Office, 149 S. Genesee Street. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Artis Yancey HBCU Tour:
For nearly 10 years, Waukegan Township has hosted the Artis Yancey HBCU Tour, introducing high school students to the nation's Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

From March 25-April 2, 2023, our group of 34 students and 6 chaperones set out from the Patricia A. Jones Center in Waukegan, traveling over 2,100 miles to visit some of the top HBCUs in the country: Wilberforce University, Norfolk State, Hampton University, North Carolina A&T and Howard University, to name a few.

In addition to the colleges and universities, students were also inspired by the exhibits at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture as well as the Washington Monument and other historical sites throughout our nation's capital.
