Saints for All Occasions: a Novel by J. Courtney Sullivan

Submitted by Terri S.

I love reading a book and being so taken by it that I’m compelled to read everything else the author has written.  Such is the case with this author, this book.  The story is that of a big sprawling Irish family set in Boston’s Southie neighborhoods.  The characters are flawed, loveable and real; the story a testament to the strength of family and the bonds of friendship.   When I wasn’t reading it, I was thinking about it!  A great summer read, and another title SURE to be on many “best of” lists for 2017.  For fans of Curtis Sittenfeld, Richard Russo and Julia Glass.

Min is murdered every two years on her birthday but, hours later, she wakes up unhurt in a clearing outside of her hometown. Add on top of that the fact that an enormous asteroid is hurtling toward the Earth. Min can’t shake the feeling that these events might be related. Thrilling and engaging, this story soon escalates into a situation not unlike The Lord of the Flies.
