Summer Reading Club 2021 at the Ruth Enlow Library
This year our Tails and Tales summer programs consisted of take-home activities, outdoor events, and a reading challenge for patrons to enjoy. All three components were a success as there were 599 kids who participated and we gave out almost 1,500 take-home activities! Our programs for all ages included two Reptile Wonders shows (with 504 attendees), a live Appalachian music performance by musician Robert Mann, an author visit from Melanie Burgess, “Animal Rescue” presented by the Garrett County Animal Shelter, two comedy ventriloquist shows by Tom Crowl, and “Night Sounds” presented by Director of Natural Resources & Wildlife Technology at Garrett College, Kevin Dodge. With the support of our patrons, presenters, and staff, these exciting summer tales will not soon be forgotten!
The Teen Department at Washington County’s Fletcher branch sponsored their annual comic con this past August. For the second year in a row, it took place online due to Covid restrictions. In addition to time for participants to interact and show off cosplay creations, there were workshops on drawing comic art and creating costumes. Over 110 people attended, either live or by visiting the con website at https://www.washcolibrary.org/wcflcc.
The Teen Department was also instrumental in securing a donation of hundreds of manga from retailer 2nd & Charles. The books will be distributed to all 3 libraries in the region, for adding to the collection, to use as prizes or give-aways, or for any other purposes. Ann Shilling and Jay Trovato of the WCFL teen staff are regular customers at 2nd & Charles, so when the company was looking for a recipient for their donation program, they turned to Ann and Jay, who were more than happy to accept!

We'd like to give a shout out to our Western Maryland Library partners who are celebrating an Anniversary in July/August. Way to go! It is a pleasure to be able to honor your years of service with the Libraries of Western Maryland.
