Recruiting Tip #1

If you are wondering what a college coach is thinking; ask them. Much of our communication is done through email and when we do not get a response, we tend to think that the school is not interested. That is not the case.

Be persistent and stay on top of it.  Keep in touch with them via updates on your season. Until you get a clear cut answer, the door is always open.

Welcome to the WAVE Report!

The place to find current conditions and the future forecast for all things WAVE.

Cooler times have officially arrived in Southern California. However, things are starting to heat up as we officially welcome all 39 indoor teams to the gym, making it a true
WAVE Nation!

Boys
November 20 1st SCVA Point Tournament Results
  • 18 Jed:  Finished 3-2 on the day, going undefeated in the last game of pool play and beating both Baja 18 & 17 in the playoffs.  It was a true team effort, with steady play speckled with multiple players stepping up at crucial times throughout the day.

  • 18 Grey: A team looking for a new groove after the qualifying rounds, continued to search for it.  Although they finished the day 2-3, they found success in the middle with all time high kills there, a first round playoff win against Coast, and had a ton of fun doing it.

  • 17 Kevin: Seeded to play in a competitive pool, two of the matches went three sets and there were many teachable moments throughout the day. The middles were able to get going offensively and the team continues to improve on aggressive serving. The team went 1-1 in playoffs.  The guys continue to improve as they strive for a JO Open bid this year.  #WINFOREVER #EMBRACETHETARGET

  • 16 Brennan: Battled through with three players missing to pull off a repeat 5th place finish from the qualifying tournaments earlier in the month.

  • 16 Nate:  After a team transition, there was still some adjusting to be worked through.  They played hard winning one and coming up short in two.
  • 15 ChrisExperienced an early lose in the tournament as they adjusted to playing with a missing setter.  However, they bounced back to finish strong with an overall 4-1 record on the day!

  • 14 Skyler : The team came ready to play.  No sense of nerves or jitters in these boys at their first tournament.  They dominated, finishing the day 3-0!  Way to go!

December 3 SCVA Points #2 Results
  • 18 Jed:  Good laughs were had with the victory celebration after taking a set off of a top Balboa Bay team.  Unfortunately, there wasn't as much celebrating victories after.  Looking towards improvement at the Holiday Classic with a full team hopefully.
  • 18 Grey: Fought hard late in the day to maintain their ranking by winning both playoff sets to finish 2-3 on the day.

  • 17 Kevin: Continued to strive towards improving.  The guys played well, making a statement by beating Coast 17-1 and going undefeated in their playoff matches.

  • 16 Brennan: Solid play and team effort found them bettering their previous 5th place finishes to a 3rd!

  • 16 Nate:  After a team transition, there was still some adjusting to be worked through.  They played hard winning one and coming up short in two.

  • 15 Chris: Played great cohesive volleyball in pool play finishing 2-1.  Improved middle play made a big difference for the team.  They ended the day with a tough first round loss in playoffs.

  • 14 Skyler: The team didn't miss a beat from the previous tournament.  Finishing 2-0 in play, putting them in the top 4 of the age group.  A tough battle against Balboa Bay found the guys two points shy of a victory.

Agility & Strength Program

The Agility and Strength training program officially started December 1st.  The programs provide athletes the opportunity to improve their performance on the court while decreasing risk of injury. WAVE Agility and Strength will teach and train volleyball-specific Agility and Strength programs, available exclusively to WAVE volleyball athletes.

If you are interested in signing up for the program, please fill out the form online . Return it to madie@wavevb.com

If your athlete is interested in starting before  December 1st please contact  amber@wavevb.com for more information on private training.

Movement of the Month
Our Agility and Strength programs will utilize various drills and strengthening techniques to help our athletes move better in complex volleyball-like patterns.  All  sessions are instructed and led by our WAVE-exclusive Performance Trainers.  Here's their "Movement of the Month" for our athletes & families.

The  TRX  Jump Squat is a great way to introduce jumping with a counterweight. This is a conditioning tool we use athletes to improve strength while lengthening the load and impact on the joints. This exercise trains explosive power and maximal neural recruitment while absorbing impact.
