The Charlestown Coalition News:
Issue 19

(RT- Sarah Coughlin, Middle- Dan Conley)
Recently, Suffolk County District Attorney Dan Conley welcomed new community partners, including the Charlestown Coalition's
Turn It Around program,
to an ambitious diversion project. The goal is to double the capacity of an innovative program that helps juveniles charged with certain serious offenses get their lives back on track without incurring additional entries on their records.
DA Conley's office launched the Juvenile Alternative Resolution pilot project back in February of 2017 with a half dozen community-based agencies in Boston. At that time, partner agencies began accepting juveniles who faced delinquency charges in the Boston Juvenile Court and showed a moderate to high risk of re-offending. On March 21st, Conley welcomed a new batch of agencies to the team.

4th Annual Turn It Around Basketball Tournament |
As part of our effort to create healthy and unifying opportunities for Charlestown youth, on Saturday, April 28, 2018, we are hosting our 4th Annual Turn It Around Basketball Tournament. This tournament is open to all middle and high school aged youth who are residents of Charlestown. In the past, nearly 75 kids participated in the tournament, and this year we're hoping to increase that number to more than 100.
The tournament takes place Saturday from 10 am-4 pm at the Charlestown Community Center and consists of a series of 3-on-3 games. Participants are also invited to a dinner and community building activity the night before, Friday, April 27th, from 6 to 8 pm at the local YMCA.
Inclusive teen programming is greatly needed in our community, and this tournament is one of the few (if not the only) event where youth can come out to learn and play together.
|
During our 4th Annual Basketball Tournament, we will be raffling off some great prizes, one of them being the "ultimate" scratch ticket board. For more information on purchasing a raffle ticket, please contact
Ginaya.
