Coronavirus Resources
for Congregations

Currently, the world is dealing with the threat of Covid 19, a coronavirus that has the potential to spread into a global pandemic. Just as threatening is the contagion of fear.

We are grateful to the Synod of the Trinity for launching a Coronavirus Resources Page, which can be found here. http://www.syntrinity.org/coronavirus-resources/
How is your congregation responding? Please let Erin Cox-Holmes or Michael Wilson know about any response or changes you’re launching in your ministry.
Beware of Fake Requests from Email Scammers
A favorite trick of email scammers is to send out a fake email that seems to come from someone you know and trust. The emails may say the person is on a trip and has had their money and documents stolen, and asking for help. They may say they are soliciting money or gift cards for a good cause.

Beware of these emails.
Forward it to the person who is mentioned in the email.
And then delete it.
In the past few weeks, you might have gotten such an email saying it is from Erin Cox-Holmes, Executive Presbyter, or Allision Beaulieu, Presbytery Moderator. Many pastors in our presbytery are also victims of this scam of sending emails in their name.

Steps to follow:
(Thanks to Don Hackett, Pastor at Centre Presbyterian Church, for these suggestions)

  1. Never send anything of value in response to any email or text request for money or gift cards.
  2. If the person mentioned is ever in trouble, they will contact someone for assistance directly, not send a general email.
  3. Let the person know you’ve received the email.

What is happening is called “Spoofing.” The emails are sent from a fake email address that the person cannot access. They have not been hacked and cannot stop the emails.
Church on the Corner Survey
A Message from PC(USA) Research Services

Last week congregations for whom we have emails began receiving invitations to participate in a short new “Church on the Corner” survey about their mission involvement and mission interests. Summaries of responses will go to Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) World Mission and other PC(USA) ministries and will help these ministries tailor their programs for these congregations.

The email invitations went to a mix of church email addresses, clerk of session email addresses, and pastor email addresses. According to our web survey software, the survey takes about six minutes to complete.

I wanted to let you know about our outreach to your congregations and ask you if you might help us remind congregational staff and other congregational leaders about this opportunity. With that in mind, I am going to attach a Church on the Corner logo and embed a link to the survey here:

The participation of every congregation in the survey is critical for strengthening mission partnership among congregations, presbyteries, and PC(USA) national ministries.

I appreciate support from you and your congregations during what I know is a busy time, with Lent, public health concerns, and so on.
