The pause is as important as the note. -Truman Fisher

Fall and Winter are nature’s way of telling us to slow down. The days can feel shorter (and busier) and it may feel like our energy levels are taking a dip right along with the sun’s earlier bedtime. Through the continued practice and study of yoga we learn that we are all connected to and impacted by these seasonal shifts.
In this time of transition, we invite you to take a deep breath and enjoy the pause before we immerse ourselves in the next season of offerings, events and special occasions. Along with new classes, workshops and trainings, read below for ideas to explore as you shift with the season.

Transitioning Into the New Season
|
|
Here are a few ideas we invite you to explore:
|
|
Adjust your asana practice...
Introduce more grounding sequences that focus on creating space through longer held pauses in the postures. Classes such as yin yoga, somatics, gentle & restorative can help you step into the rhythm of this season. Consider introducing breathwork that is balancing and calming such as alternate nostril breath. Notice the releasing quality of the exhales as you welcome the nourishment that comes through the inhalations.
A great example of a grounding sequence is the Earth Salutation.Join Glenda for a video of the guided sequence here

|
Create a dedicated space...
With the colder temperatures and increasingly challenging weather, more often our physical practice moves indoors. If possible, create a space in your home that is clutter free and provides you with enough room to unroll your mat. De-cluttering is a way to create space not only in our homes but also in our minds. As weather and your local guidelines permit, visit a dedicated space like our beautiful 7,000 square foot yoga centre, where strict protocols are in place to give you peace of mind while you practice in community.
|
|
Connect with Community...
The tendency to hibernate isn’t limited to our animal friends. While it can be great to enjoy some slower days in our cozy homes, it is also important to stay connected with friends, family, and community. Consider signing up for a new class or workshop series that sparks your interest, engages your brain, and gives you something new to chat about at the kitchen table.

Marie-Lyne first joined the Beyond Yoga team as a bilingual yoga instructor on our corporate yoga team - teaching classes to virtual participants located in both Ottawa and Montreal. It was a tall order to fill, but she quickly rose to the task teaching fully bilingual virtual classes from her home studio. It wasn't long before we began to see Marie-Lyne in-studio as well, drawing upon her years of experience teaching fitness and yoga for the city of Ottawa, to lead Barre and Yoga classes as an instructor at Beyond.
Q & A with Marie-Lyne:
Where are you from? Hawkesbury, Ontario- a little town between Ottawa and Montreal. My mother still lives there and we visit the area often.
How did yoga come into your life? Yoga came into my life when I was looking for some tools to help me manage stress and improve my mental health. The first class I attended was in the basement of a local church. Yoga helped me find myself again.
Why do you practice yoga? I practice yoga to create space for myself.
Favorite Yoga pose? All of them! But if I have to choose, I love the feeling of lying back in Reclined Hero Pose.
What do you do for fun? I love spending time with my daughter, running, and physical training.
As a child what did you want to be when you grew up? I always admired figure skaters and when I was a kid I wanted to be one (even though I didn't skate!)
Favorite book(s): Romeo & Juliet has always been a favorite. Lately I have been enjoying a book called Yoga Sequencing by Mark Stevens which has been a great resource for my classes.

Breathe Easy New Dates!
with Sylvie Gouin
& Dr. Virinder Kasbia

The rhythm and ease in which the breath flows is our true nature. Over time with the demands of daily life many of us have become thoracic and mouth breathers which can create more stress, tension and everything else that goes with stress.
As one of the greatest sources of energy, conscious breathing, is free and always available. Developing the habit to breathe deeply is a powerful practice and requires knowledge, practice and guidance.
NEW DATES:
Tuesdays: November 9 to 30, 2021
9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Registration closes November 2, 2021
