Better Power Substation Utilization

Through planning and analysis, SEC’s engineering team determined that two of its large substation transformers would better serve its membership if they were switched. The transformer at the Cherry Hill substation had excess capacity, while the transformer at the Center Star substation was nearing capacity. Switching the transformers not only increased power reliability, but it also delayed the need for new equipment by roughly ten years. In addition, approximately $650,000 was saved by swapping transformers versus purchasing a new unit for Center Star.

Broadband Expansion

Your Cooperative understands the importance of Broadband in our communities, which is why we have completed four feasibility studies as recently as 2022. These studies help to determine if such an endeavor is viable in our service territory. Fiscal responsibility is part of who we are along with our commitment to members. SEC will continue to work with counties and other co-ops to connect people to the internet. SEC supports efforts to provide internet to our communities by working with several local companies to utilize SEC poles and designated land space.

SEC understands your need and pledges to continue exploring Broadband options. Click below to find out how SEC supports Broadband expansion.

Concern for Community is one of the seven principles that govern your Cooperative where we work for sustainable development in our communities. Recently, Southside Electric Cooperative’s Member Engagement and Communications (MEC) team volunteered at the Total Life Center (SOVA) in Burkeville for HOPE Food Distribution.
