PRESERVE . RESTORE . REUSE

Click here to read Our President John Neiuber's article in the

Claremont COURIER about this year's theme...

The historic preservation movement in Claremont really began to take hold in the mid- l970s. This community-driven initiative has been instrumental in shaping Claremont's approach to managing its valuable cultural resources.

The Historic Claremont Zoning District was established in 1970. and the Arbol Verde Zoning District was created in 1991. In 1979. Russian Village was listed in the National Register as a historic neighborhood. Since then seven other significant sites or structures have been added to the National Register of Historic Places,

In 1976 Claremont Heritage, a non- profit organization, was formed and has been responsible for keeping the history of Claremont alive by collecting and documenting materials in our archives and creating educational programs and events that celebrate our heritage. Claremont Heritage works with the City of Claremont to advise on development projects that include or impact our historic resources. We invite you to join us as a member today!

Get Involved

Next Wednesday, February 14th,Valentines Day, you have an opportunity to see our City in action, as a draft Citywide Cultural Resources Preservation Ordinance is brought before the Architectural Commission (Feb 14th 7 pm Council Chambers at City Hall) for review. The ordinance will help create guidelines for protecting the historic character of existing historic structures, landscapes, and places. You can learn more about it HERE and we encourage you to get involved and make your voice heard. We need to help protect our City from inappropriate outside development as well as new State development guidelines that do little to protect our valued historic sites and buildings.
