The historic preservation movement in Claremont really began to take hold in the mid- l970s. This community-driven initiative has been instrumental in shaping Claremont's approach to managing its valuable cultural resources.
The Historic Claremont Zoning District was established in 1970. and the Arbol Verde Zoning District was created in 1991. In 1979. Russian Village was listed in the National Register as a historic neighborhood. Since then seven other significant sites or structures have been added to the National Register of Historic Places,
In 1976 Claremont Heritage, a non- profit organization, was formed and has been responsible for keeping the history of Claremont alive by collecting and documenting materials in our archives and creating educational programs and events that celebrate our heritage. Claremont Heritage works with the City of Claremont to advise on development projects that include or impact our historic resources. We invite you to join us as a member today!
