The theme for National Family
Caregivers Month is
"Take Care to Give Care".

The first rule of taking care of others: take care of yourself first. Caregiving can be a rewarding experience, but it is also physically and emotionally demanding. The stress of dealing with caregiving responsibilities leads to a higher risk of health issues among the Nation's 90 million family caregivers. So as a family caregiver, remember to pay attention to your own physical and mental wellness, and get proper rest and nutrition. Only by taking care of yourself can you be strong enough to take care of your loved one.*

During National Family Caregivers Month, we remind our SKSF family caregivers that to be strong enough to care for your loved one, you must Take Care to Give Care!

Night of comedy raises donations for families of the disabled in Colorado Springs
by Linda Navarro

A Night of Comedy filled with craziness and laughter thanks to featured Chicago-area comic Mike Toomey was a special evening for a cause. The nightclub dinner venue at the DoubleTree hotel held a sold-out crowd of 140 on Oct. 1, raising nearly $24,000 for Special Kids Special Families' Zach's Place 24/7 respite care for families with children with disabilities. A delighted SKSF Director Linda Ellegard greeted guests and shared that it's expected Zach's Place will provide more than 18,000 hours of care this year to a record number of youth served. A successful capital campaign drive had helped SKSF expand facilities to help meet the demand. Programs supporting Zach's Place ( also include purchases and recycling at Koscove Metal.
