We’re All In This Together,
Even When Apart
By: Pathway to Living® Director of Wellness Kelly Fischer, BSN, CHPN
Like most of you, residents in Pathway to Living communities are sheltering in place. We are closely following CDC guidelines and referring to local, state and federal protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and rely on the guidance from scientists and health professionals as our world heals.

While we remain focused on social distancing and proper hygiene practices, team members, residents and families are also finding ways to go through this experience together, even when apart.

Visitation is on hold, but residents and family are staying connected through virtual visits and even window visits, where loved ones can actually see each other from a safe distance.

Restaurant and family-style dining is on hold, but residents enjoy three fresh, healthy and delicious meals delivered daily to their doors. What’s more, team members cruise the hallways with snack and ice cream carts in between meals with tasty pick-me-up treats.

Group programming is on hold, but residents are rediscovering time to pursue passions like painting, scrapbooking and sewing with the support of team members, who deliver whatever supplies are needed for in-home projects.

Interactive programs like hallway happy hours, mobile dance parties and sing-alongs encourage residents to stay in touch and have fun with neighbors from a safe distance. Residents are accessing musical performances, museum tours and continue to experience lifelong learning content online from their personal devices or ones borrowed from the community.

Our residents tell us that they are experiencing less stress and loneliness, because they are living under one roof in a community of support and feel a true sense of being in this together. Our frontline caregivers are available to meet their physical and emotional needs, while families continue to find creative ways to connect and stay in touch.

The dedication of Pathway’s frontline team is being recognized by others with kind words of appreciation and thank-you letters, which lift the team’s spirits. People are invited to share their feedback and experiences on Pathway’s “Resident Experience Hotline” at 888-959-3745. You can leave a message anytime, and a Pathway team member will respond to you within six hours.

While the world navigates uncertain times, Pathway’s mission remains the same. We believe that a vibrant, meaningful and purpose-filled life is achievable at any age. Thank you for supporting us in this mission.

PS – We’re proud to share day-to-day photos of our real-life hero team members and residents, but want to point out that many photos were taken before the mandate to wear masks, which, rest assured, team members are currently following at all times.
Virtual Visits

The VIVA! Life Coordinator at each community is ready to help set up virtual visits between family members and residents. You can get a head start by downloading Zoom or Google Duo , and then call to schedule a visit.

Health Check

Hello and how are you feeling today? Pathway's dedicated essential workers start each shift with a temperature check and health screening questionnaire and then have a second temperature check during their shift.

Birthday Love

Separated for now, Stoney River Marshfield couple, Tony and Ruth , found a way to celebrate Tony’s 95th birthday together with a little help. Lifestyle Specialist Nikki took photos of Ruth’s sweet birthday messages to share with Tony and their family.

Their daughter, Jane , captured Tony’s reaction best when she said,

“It was Dad’s favorite gift for his 95th birthday! It brought him to tears but in a good way. Thank you so much.”
New Ways to Experience
Family Time

When Stoney River Marshfield resident Virginia celebrated her birthday, family surprised her with a sign and balloons outside of her window, while team members made sure she had birthday balloons inside as well.

Stoney River Ramsey resident Gwen’ s family stopped by for what we like to call a “drive through” visit, where they said hello from a safe distance outside of her window.

Stoney River Marshfield resident Bob’s “best friend,” Sarge, stopped by for a tail-wagging visit. While people visits are on hold, Bob really enjoyed spending time with his four-legged friend.
Caring for Stoney River residents’ health and wellbeing… connecting residents and family…and creating joy and purpose – all without capes or tights!

THANK YOU to our Stoney River team, always incredible, for stepping up in ways that inspire gratitude and admiration.

Memory Café Memories
Last month Stoney River Marshfield celebrated its Memory Café’s 5th anniversary with 50 attendees and live accordion music! Memory Cafés are now on hold, but we have big plans with our partners, Marshfield Area United Way, Marshfield Zion United Methodist Church and Marshfield Area Respite Care Center Inc., for when we can gather and support each other again.
