Innovations in Electric Vehicle Cooling Technologies
Thermal management is crucial for electric vehicle powertrain technologies and future development of autonomous vehicles. Part 1 of this session will share technologies, lightweight & high efficiency thermal solutions for cooling, best practices and lessons learned in the field of electronics thermal management. Part 2 will focus on material choice considerations for thermal management of vehicle batteries.
PART 1
Subject: Analytical results comparing many fin types while maintaining a minimum size flow path and the development of a standardized test for inverter heat sinks. Presented by Brian Costello, Advanced Development Engineer, Senior Flexonics.
This segment will also feature our next generation heat sink innovations to cool inverters (IGBTs) and the specific development of the patented "Omega" fin design that increases the fin's surface area within the same space constraints as a straight fin design.
PART 2
Subject: Material Choice Considerations in Battery Thermal Management. Presented by Eric Gillam, Business Unit Manager - Thermal Management, Senior Flexonics.
Part 2 of the presentation will focus on the research and testing currently underway at our dedicated testing locations on a range of materials. The discussion will explore how a future design's development must compare the application, costs, durability, space and weight constraints.
