YOU HELPED BEAT 33!

It's been an incredible week.

The citizens of California have said “Enough” to slumlord Michael Weinstein, who has wasted millions of dollars on his bizarre crusade against affordable housing.

Despite the many lies of the tenant activists, Californians have seen the truth: extreme rent control reduces homebuilding, and rewards only those who are lucky enough to live in a below-market apartment already.

Not only did Californians widen the voting margin against Prop 33 from Weinstein's attempts in 2018 and 2020, but LA County finally voted decisively against extreme rent control - and YOU made a difference!

We'd like to thank our members for their generous donations, for putting up yard signs and banners, for talking to their friends and neighbors about their vote, and for showing up at the ballot to vote down this assault on property rights.

Here at Pasadena Housing Providers, we're incredibly proud of our team of volunteers who put on fund-raisers, delivered almost one thousand signs, hung banners on I-110 and Colorado Blvd, and kept our members informed.

We have a lot of work to do over the coming months to help you through the problems with the Rent Registry and other issues such as...

VACANCY CONTROL BY STEALTH

At the Rent Board meeting on Thursday night (November 7th), the Board started planning an end-run around Ellis Act. They want to make it much riskier for you to take your own property off the market by charging you punitive fines if you later change your mind, and impose vacancy control by stealth by forcing you to offer your apartment to the old tenant at their previous rent even if you've spent heavily on upgrades. Even 5 to 10 years later!

Despite their loss on Prop 33, the Board's extremists were surprised to find that unelected activists are not allowed to overturn the existing law. Instead, they must petition the City Council.

We will be monitoring the Board's latest attack on your property rights, so that you will have an opportunity to make your voice heard when the Council considers this latest attack on your property rights.

SAVE THE DATE!

We're holding a no-host lunchtime get-together with a guest speaker on December 13th, to celebrate the win on Prop 33, and to talk about what comes next to protect your property rights in Pasadena.

HAVE YOUR SAY ON FAIR RELOCATION

The Rent Board will soon be reviewing its sky-high relocation allowances, which can exceed $37,000. Especially if you're a small owner, make sure you have your say by filling in the survey. It's on the second page of this site, and you'll need to fill it in and email it back to rentalboard@cityofpasadena.net
