Participating with 3-plus million other women, children and men around the world on January 21was thrilling and intoxicating, though not, I am glad to say, cathartic, as in, "Well we did it. It's done. We did something. And now we feel better.

But, rather, it  stimulated, exhilarated and energized our commitment to continue to stand strong in our convictions and determination to do good. Each of us doing what we do best, each in our own way. Together making a difference.

What will you be doing?

Hear Her Roar!

This essay was sent to me by
Bobbe Bramson
, a sister Queen.  It could not be more timely.
In the spirit of Helen Reddy's iconic feminist anthem and the Million Women March this month, here's a 21st Century Woman's Vision Statement and Declaration of Intent:
Imagine what the world would be like if every woman stood in her power, unveiled her majesty, shone her light without apology, and expressed her unvarnished truth without fear of reprisal. Imagine if every female child was nurtured from birth to honor her own unique radiance; her softness and vulnerability valued as assets. What if she were encouraged to blossom into whatever spectacular wildflower she could dream of becoming? What if her innately intuitive inner goddess was treasured and her wisdom sought after? What if her fierceness, strength, and creative fire burned brightly, stoked daily with love and support not only for herself, but for her female peers?

Picture it now: a world where women are seen and heard and respected as equals, not objectified and ruled by what patriarchy may define as appropriate or not. In this made-over world every woman has total legal dominion over her own body no matter what her circumstances and violent acts against her are not only outlawed, but come with an extreme penalty should that law be abused. What would it be like if every woman had the right to be strong, forceful, opinionated, and yes, totally in her righteous power without being labeled a "bitch"? What if women in every culture were free to revel in the sensuous delight of their own intoxicating beauty and sexuality without having to worry about being accused of "asking for it" should a man misinterpret that as a come on?
woman with megaphone

Imagine how all of humanity would benefit if every woman was assumed to merit and receive as her due equal rights and equal pay for her contributions and support of the world's economy and greater good. What if the paths of opportunity that have been closed were to suddenly be made open so that women could blaze those paths with their own unique visions of a better future for the next seven generations and beyond? And all those closed doors, elite private domains, and off-limit ceilings...what if women were invited to enter, join in healthy equal partnership, and break through?

Imagine a world where the magnificent power and wondrous force of the Divine Feminine is revered instead of feared; in this welcoming culture a woman claims her right to be fully herself. She's free to choose how she lives her life because the sky's the limit and the world reflects that truth back to her.

And most important of all...what if every woman knew in her core that these should be inalienable rights in this new century of urgent needs and mighty challenges? What if she understood that her contribution is absolutely imperative if we are to have any chance of envisioning, crafting, and manifesting the shift in consciousness necessary to make a better world?

Imagine, believe, speak up, be brave, take empowered action. Roar!

You Were Made For This

The French have a marvelous saying:
When a woman loses her blood, she gains her voice.

The New York Subways sport this sign:
If you see something, say something.

Queens speak up and say what needs to be said
in defense of what they know is right and worthy
and in the best interest of women
and society as a whole.

A Queen has got to say what She has got to say!

Clarissa Pinkola  Estés

Ours is not the task of fixing the entire world all at once, but of stretching out to mend the part of the world that is within our reach. Any small, calm thing that one soul can do to help another soul, to assist some portion of this poor suffering world, will help immensely. It is not given to us to know which acts or by whom, will cause the critical mass to tip toward an enduring good. What is needed for dramatic change is an accumulation of acts, adding, adding to, adding more, continuing. We know that it does not take everyone on Earth to bring justice and peace, but only a small, determined group who will not give up during the first, second, or hundredth gale.

One of the most calming and powerful actions you can do to intervene in a stormy world is to stand up and show your soul. Soul on deck shines like gold in dark times. The light of the soul throws sparks, can send up flares, builds signal fires, causes proper matters to catch fire. To display the lantern of soul in shadowy times like these -- to be fierce and to show mercy toward others; both are acts of immense bravery and greatest necessity. Struggling souls catch light from other souls who are fully lit and willing to show it. If you would help to calm the tumult, this is one of the strongest things you can do.
There will always be times when you feel discouraged. I too have felt despair many times in my life, but I do not keep a chair for it. I will not entertain it. It is not allowed to eat from my plate.

In that spirit, I hope you will write this on your wall: When a great ship is in harbor and moored, it is safe, there can be no doubt. But that is not what great ships are built for.

Thank you so much for validating and encouraging what is sure to be the most important challenging activism we must face in this new age. So many ghosts of the 60s arising!          - Estelle, CA

I feel so connected to this amazing community of women who care about the world and care for themselves and each other.
We are the mothers, the grandmothers, the teachers, the healers, the leaders. We are the ones we have been waiting for!
-Janice, TN

I did a labyrinth walk this afternoon praying for the water protectors after the DAPL orders yesterday. So much energy on de-struction. The Mother is not happy...she cannot be  "grabbed," she is ferocious and hasn't even started to show her wrath yet.

And we are glad to so. It is a joy and a privilege to share in the fortune of another woman. I recently heard Oprah say the saddest thing ever - "The hardest thing about being successful is having someone to be glad for you."

It takes a centered and confident Queen to break that pattern. There are 60 million thrones out there. One for each of us. There is plenty of purpose, passion and power for us all. May we use it well!

Prayer requests:
Can u add Malana Ashlie (aka Marte Kliesh) to your healing list until she finishes her chemo treatment? Malana has decided to enter a chemo program in Phoenix for lung cancer (stage 4). The outcome? A world of unknowns. Thank you in advance. I hope the healing hands of the staff go to work. You have a positive approach. Can you employ it now? There's a lot at stake here and now. No pressure.

Where the Queens Are

FLORIDA

I had to do it! I had to stand up at the Quaker meeting in St Petersburg on December 12 and say that there needed to be a local Women's Solidarity March in downtown St Petersburg and I'd be willing to do some work for it. Until then, there'd been no one willing to stand up in this city. So I did it, just four days after arriving for my winter respite to sunny Florida from beautiful Ridgefield, CT.

Little did I know what was in store for me, but miraculously the most brilliant, dedicated, and accomplished women and men reached out to me immediately, including the DC March, the FL Chair, Emma Cullum, and Suzanne Young who got us connected to the National March, who set up our Facebook page.

January 21 was a great day. Our Women's Solidarity March for Social Justice took place in St. Petersburg with 25000 (police count) peaceful and joyful marchers while millions others joined the over 600 Sister Marches throughout the USA and the world!

Our Mission: To create an inclusive community regardless of gender, race, nationality, faith, or sexual orientation for a common vision of freedom, equality, sustainability, and social justice.

Just look at us!

I gave the opening remarks. It was  my 81st birthday. When the crowd burst out singing Happy Birthday to me, I stood on the stage amazed and delighted to think that at this stage of my life I'd taken on the mantle of founder and organizer of that fantastic and complex event. Our brilliant team worked with enormous dedication in just six weeks, and created the biggest and best organized Women's March for Social Justice in all of Florida (and the largest ever in St Petersburg.

The spirit was high throughout. Our march (and all the others) energized and gave courage for the emailing; calling; sitting in with legislators; joining organizations, working for and funding them; and relentlessly acting to preserve our Democracy and the values we cherish.

The Mayor of St Petersburg, Rick Kriseman proclaimed January 21st as Women's Rights Day in St Petersburg FL. The speakers were energized and spoke to the issues.

Sending love and my deepest hope that we act wisely, firmly, and persistently; that we find it in our power to keep close to ourselves and to each other; and that we pass safely through the unprecedented times ahead.

- Suzanne Benton, FL
