Status of ADS-B Implementation
in Europe - SESAR
Tower Theatre - 16.20
With less than three months remaining to the due date, the implementation of SPI IR in the airborne domain is progressing at an unprecedented pace; at year-end 2019, the equipage in the mandated fleet was monitored at 62% by EUROCONTROL, increasing at 8 percentage points monthly. The European Commission recently concluded the public consultation of the Amendment proposal to the SPI IR, which was developed jointly with EASA and seeks to address important provisions such as those dealing with exemptions on airborne equipment. Finally, the use of ADS-B in ANSP surveillance chains is becoming an acute question as air operators seek to recover benefits on their investments while military authorities are wary of associated potential cybersecurity risks.
