Land Trust Accepts

Transfer of Monitor Island

The Lake County Land Trust is excited to announce the acquisition of Monitor Island off the shore of Clearlake Park! This small but significant piece of land was transferred to the Land Trust by the State of California Department of Fish and Wildlife. We are honored to be entrusted with such a unique and captivating feature of Clear Lake.

The Land Trust is also excited to work with the tribes, the Koi and Elem, to manage, interpret, and protect this island - a part of their ancestral lands. We understand the importance of preserving and maintaining this island, and we are committed to doing our best to ensure that it remains healthy and accessible to the public.

Although the island is only approachable by boat, it has always been available to public visitation, and we intend to keep it that way. Most of the Islands on Clear Lake are private and not accessible to the public. We are going to continue keeping this beautiful piece of land open to the community and invite everyone to come and explore the wonders of Monitor Island.

This month, celebrate National Eat Outside Day at Rodman Preserve! Bring you family and or friends any Saturday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm for a picnic with a view. You can hike to a scenic spot or relax at our Nature Center's shaded porch. Eating outdoors with your family and/or friends is not only a great way to enjoy fresh, delicious food, but also provides numerous health benefits! Research shows that spending time in nature boosts your immune system, provides vitamin D from the sun, eases anxiety and depression, improves concentration, helps gut bacteria, and lowers the risk of illness and disease. All we ask is you take away what you bring into our beautiful Rodman Preserve. Don't miss out on this opportunity to enjoy and celebrate the National Eat Outside Day with a picnic while improving your health!
