THE DMS BULLETIN
MULTIMEDIA COLUMN
This month's review: We asked our DMS friend and the President of The Northern Colorado Medical Society, Sean Pauzauskie, MD*, to share his latest multimedia obsession.
Severance
Fasten your seatbelts for a psychological thriller predicated upon the idea that work and personal life can be completely separated with neurotechnology. A disoriented cast who’ve decided to receive the implant that accomplishes this condition, so they can work diligently for the mysterious Lumon Corporation, attempt to understand each side of their severed world, drawing the audience into the conundrum of and confronting the question: what does it mean to be a human being, a whole person, with an integrated identity?
Love, loss, and maintaining professional integrity are just a few of the foundations of a show that has captivated global audiences, some whom find themselves obsessed with the fate of a diverse set of characters who may represent a microcosm what society faces as neurotechnology becomes more prevalent in our daily lives. If ever there was a time for a broader cultural narrative to emerge to help spur conversation on what could be a great evolution for humanity, Severance accomplishes this in a wildly entertaining way.
