Budget Meetings, Summer Fun, Law Suits and More

Friday, August 4, 2023

Greetings Good People,

I hope your summer has been safe and enjoyable so far. Our Community Calendar has been full of back-to-back events since the 4th of July... Rock the Block, Rockin' with Seniors, Carnival, SummerFest, Pride, and most recently, National Night Out.

While these summer occasions are an excellent time for us to commune and hang out with each other, it's vital that we also acknowledge the city's more serious matters, like the municipal budget and how administrative decisions affect home owners' and renters' pockets.

We invite you to participate in all of the city's endeavors. Keep scrolling to learn more.

Be great on purpose,

Councilman Frank Educational Gilmore

Lt. Gov. Sheila Oliver passed away on Tuesday, August 1st after hospitalization for undisclosed medical issue. We are grateful for her dedication and service as she was nothing short of a trailblazer. Her absence will be a huge loss for New Jersey's political landscape. We send our condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues. May her memory be an inspiration.

Jersey City's $701 MILLION DOLLAR budget failed to pass on July 24th, receiving only four out of the five needed votes from the present council members. Click the image above to watch the Special Council Meeting and below for an overview of City Department Budget Presentations.

Budget documents are also available via Google Drive for your review. Click to find out exactly how your tax dollars are being spent. Then, sign up to speak at our next City Council Meeting, Wednesday, August 16th at 6:00 pm.

We have some great news to share with you: Myrtle Ave is finally getting re-paved!

  • Estimated time of Completion: August 8th – August 16th
  • From Garfield to Bergen Ave
  • Parking restrictions will be enforced as posted and the road will be intermittently closed to traffic flow, but pedestrian access to all businesses and residences will be maintained.
  • Speedhumps will be re-installed soon after to ensure the safety of the community.
  • The project will also include driveway markings.

Additionally, the office has received and submitted the community’s request for a 4-way stop or light at Myrtle & MLK. We hope to have an update on that request soon. We’ve also requested a crossing guard and/or traffic officer at this intersection.

To add your street to the repaving list, email LTrent@jcnj.org.
