Bastion Visitors

We are always so excited when we receive visitors, especially when they are long time supporters that we meet in person for the first time. Our past board member Cecilia Neher and her family came to visit us during their end of the year holidays. We have known Cecila from many zoom meetings and she has been our liaison with Bastion Foundation for many years. They sponsored different important CCDO projects, lastly the hugely successful and impactful Digital Literacy program for the past four years. Cecilia had the honor of presenting the graduation certificates to the students.

Rotary Club Sentosa visit

The annual January visit of Rotary Club Sentosa, Singapore is always a highly anticipated event. Much work and coordination is needed to accommodate a large number of active members and visits to many different projects that they so generously support.

The highlight is always the memorable event of giving out over 1,000 bicycles to children from 102 different schools and 13 school districts, some far away from the city. This year 1,051 bicycles were donated to secondary school students as well as study materials.

The ceremony was attended by the deputy Provincial Governor, Her Excellency, Manny Raingsey and Director of Provincial Education for Siem Reap. Mr Ly Bunna and Mr Chhorth Chhieng, Director of the Provincial Teacher Training College in Siem Reap.

Rotary District Governor Dr. Shahul Hameed, gave a moving speech, "where hope meets the road"

Watch the Speech

The CCDO staff had meticulously labeled each bike with name and school and age of recipient and each student had a special ticket to hand in to receive their bike. The handover was done in school clusters and the process took about an hour to complete.

After donating 20 computers at the Provincial Teacher Training College, our lovely guests of RC Sentosa Singapore, also planted 14 fruit trees as the beginning of a green healthy orchard that will provide shade and fruit for the campus. The event is always featured on many Cambodian TV stations.

Honored guest of RC Kuching Malaysia, District Governor Dr. Shahul Hameed and Past President Ng Yaw Hua visited their sponsored School Toilet block at the Kurata Unity Primary school where study materials were given to the 170 students.

RC Sentosa obtained a global grant to build 100 toilets for families and another 200 toilets are in the pipeline. All 300 village toilets have been donated in conjunction with the Kingsley and Joni Foundation. A huge vote of gratitude to them for bringing dignity to so many and helping solve the open field defecation problem.

World in Peace Collaboration

As peace in the world continues to be so very elusive, we salute anyone who chooses to take positive action. Rikuto Hong of World in Peace of Japan, not only donated $650 for our preschool supplies, but his design team helped revamp our banners for our Health and Safety in School program. They captured the essence of the program. The visuals are important as we are training the teachers and local authorities to run the program with the students.

Donors

A huge thanks to longtime supporter, Sue Griffin, for her $2,500 donation for our education program. A shout out to Gene Dunham, for his continued support with his generous donation of $2,000. We are grateful to Jim Riley for his generous $6,000 donation.
