Small Horsehair Pot
Gary Yellowcorn Louis
Donated by Randy and Diane Stephen
Gary Yellowcorn Louis is an Acoma potter.
Acoma pottery is thin-walled, delicately decorated pottery.
His pottery is decorated using horsehair. The hair burns when it touches the pottery, leaving a light stain baked into the clay, which makes a unique pattern on each piece. It is then etched by hand.
