Summer Camps and Programs

As a result of the Governor’s order for everyone to stay at home and for all recreation centers to remain closed until at least June 10, our department has altered many of our programs and events. Unfortunately, this includes the cancellation of our full-day summer camps, including; Herndon Odyssey, Teen Discovery, and Preschool camp. Without the ability to hire staff, prepare activities and field trips, and meet the licensing requirements, we have proactively chosen to announce this decision now to allow you and your family time to make alternative summer plans.

As the vision for summer becomes more clear, and we are able to prepare sufficiently and depending on the health of our community, we may offer a limited number of specialty camps in the late summer. We will send you an update on our summer programs and camp offerings, and new summer registration dates the week of May 4. Plus, you can look for updates on our website and Facebook page. Thank you for your support and understanding as we all adjust and work to keep our community healthy. Questions, please email parksandrec@herndon-va.gov
2020 Herndon Festival Canceled

Maybe you have heard, the Festival is canceled as we comply with the Governor's stay at home orders. We will miss seeing you at the Festival this year! Our staff is disappointed too, but it is important to help our community stay healthy. Please stay connected to this event by checking the Herndon Festival website and Facebook page. Via Facebook, share with us your favorite Herndon Festival photos. Please mark your calendar for the 2021 Herndon Festival, June 3-6.
Support Local Restaurants and Grocery Stores

COVID-19 emergency is impacting our daily lives, but many Herndon businesses remain committed to helping our community through special shopping hours, take-out, and delivery options. Please support our local businesses! Click here to learn more.
Help Keep Our Community Clean

Help keep our community beautiful by picking up trash (especially microtrash) in your community or along a trail. Remember parks are closed and please keep your social distance. PLUS, you should always wear sturdy gloves, or avoid picking up objects with your hands altogether by using a pickup stick. Don't pick up hazardous materials, such as razor blades, syringes, and animal carcasses. Share a photo and show us what you collected via our Facebook page. If you want to get creative, here is a DIY trash collector.
Going On A Bear Hunt

Who wants to go on a bear hunt? Teddy bear/ stuffed animals are appearing in windows around the world in "Teddy Bear Hunts" for children — uniting neighborhoods and communities and giving children an exciting, social-distancing-safe scavenger hunt activity. The hunts are inspired by Michael Rosen’s 1989 children’s book "We’re Going on a Bear Hunt." Hunts are happening in Benicia Estates, Corner of Park & Grant, Terrymill Dr. (Hastings Hunt), Cuttermill, Broad Oaks, Hiddenbrook, Meeting House Rd, and Bicksler Ln. Thank to those who are playing along.
