Community Education News
Winter, Spring, Summer and Looking Ahead!
January feels like it was just yesterday....and now we are coming into May. And wasn't there a Snow Day just 2 weeks ago? Time goes by so fast at Bloomington Community Education! The Fall catalog is being prepped and we are looking ahead to Bloomington Bookfest 2020! Before we get to ahead of ourselves, let's take a 10 minute break to catch up on what has happened over the last month....
Fraser Walk for Autism
A Kids' SAFARI team of walkers participated in the 2019 Fraser Walk for Autism event on April 13th. This walk, presented by Central Roofing Company, raised more than $150,000 for Fraser, which is Minnesota's largest provider of Autism and Early Childhood Mental Health Services. Some of the children in Kids' SAFARI are served by Fraser, and our team wanted to show their support for the organization and for our program participants. Metro South Welcome Meals
On April 9, Metro South Adult Basic Education and the City of Bloomington co-hosted a Bloomington Welcome Meal for surrounding neighbors and businesses at the Metro South campus. A free taco bar luncheon, catered by Affordable Best Catering of Bloomington, was served to our neighbors in an effort to create community, share a meal and cultures, and to get to know one another.

The event was a huge success with more than 50+ participants including students, staff, volunteers from Metro South ABE, City of Bloomington staff, Ebenezer Communities, and more!

Metro South ABE is a school for adults and is dedicated to supporting the efforts of those who wish to improve their lives through literacy, education, career development, and lifelong learning. The main campus is located at 2575 West 88th Street in Bloomington. There is a second campus in Eden Prairie located within Hennepin Technical College. Metro South offers English as a Second Language classes, Adult Diploma, GED, and College Study prep classes.

Look Who's New to Community Education!
Ann Marie Terpstra is our new Registration Clerk with Kids' SAFARI. Ann Marie joined the District in 1996, working for Tech Support. In 2000, she joined the Transportation Department, working as a Bus Driver and Dispatcher. After leaving the District for a few years to be a stay-at-home-parent (best job ever!), she went back to working for Transportation, eventually becoming their full-time Office Manager. Ann Marie lives and works in Bloomington and her children attend Bloomington Schools. She is excited to be working with Bloomington Community Education. Welcome aboard Ann Marie!
Louise Hamer is our new Technology Specialist and will be working with all the departments under Bloomington Community Education. Louise has been with the Bloomington School District since 2015 as Bloomington Career and College Academy's (BCCA) Program Secretary. Her experience covers all areas including budgets, tech support, customer service, and she's even repainted a wall or two around the Community Education Campus! Louise is excited to dive into her new role and work with all the different Community Education programs. Welcome Louise!
Early Learning Move & Groove
On April 4, the Early Learning Services Team held a Family Fun Night with a focus on fine and gross motor skills. Move & Groove gets everyone to play in the gyms, explore the motor room, practice yoga, and work fine motor skills in the classroom. Language and literacy are embedded into each activity. The ECFE Team, along with the ELS Literacy Coaches put on this fabulous event for our families.
Early Learning Services' New Office Team
I t has been a busy year in Early Learning Services with several new Office Team Members coming aboard! In the fall, Antonio Caudillo was added as a Community Liaison to help support all families navigating ELS with an emphasis on families whose first language is Spanish.

Then, Tim Krieg joined the team as our Preschool Program Secretary. Tim is responsible for registration and enrollment of all our preschool children and their families.

Not soon after Tim arrived, Shannon Fabick accepted the position of Administrative Secretary. Shannon's role involves a lot of "other duties as assigned" in addition to keeping our budget, ordering, and billing....she keeps our program running!

Our latest edition is Karly Jacobson. Karly is the ECFE and Screening Program Secretary and is the friendly face families see when they come into Pond Center. Karly takes care of screening data, registration, and enrollment of all ECFE families.

Fun fact! Tim and Karly are siblings and both are graduates of Bloomington Jefferson High School!

We welcome you to stop by and welcome this amazing team to Bloomington Early Learning Services!
