Pastor Trudy's Message
Our passage comes from the book of Hosea, tucked in the minor prophets section of the Old Testament. You may not be enticed to read it if you begin to read through the chapter headings in the book; 'God accuses Israel', 'the idolatry of Israel', 'impending judgement on Israel and Judah', 'Israel's apostasy' and 'Israel's sin and captivity'. The section we will hear is from chapter 11: 1-11. The heading is 'God's compassion despite Israel's ingratitude.' God's final word always seems to be compassion. Hosea reminds us not to mistake compassion for commendation.
Mighty God, the gift of Your compassion is often in spite of our disregard for Your call. Help us to see where we have failed to listen and to respond with overflowing gratitude. In Jesus' name, Amen.
