Dear Friends,
After much planning and organization, the Ansche Chesed shelter will open its doors on Saturday, June 13th! Starting that evening, our community will host and provide dinner for seven men each night. After six years, we are thrilled to finally reopen our shelter in partnership with Broadway Community, whose clients will be our guests.
This project of love will require a great deal of collective effort, and we encourage every member of our community to get involved.
There are a few ways to volunteer. The first is to cook or purchase dinner for our guests. Meals do not need to be prepared in a kosher kitchen and can be purchased from establishments without kashrut certification, but please make sure that all food is dairy or pareve (no meat dishes). The second is to volunteer to be at the shelter either as an Early Evening Host or an Overnight Host.

Before volunteering we ask that everyone watch this volunteer orientation, which outlines the core responsibilities of our volunteers. We also ask that volunteers reach out to Amy Shapiro-Kessler at 212-865-0600 x209 or ashapirokessler@anschechesed.org by June 1st to complete a simple and straightforward background check.
Do you have friends or neighbors who might want to volunteer? They’re more than welcome! Please have them reach out directly to Amy to discuss this.
We are so excited for opening day, and we thank you in advance for all the time and care that you will put into this holy work.
