SB Reads Frankenstein |
This year the library has chosen to celebrate the bicentennial of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein: or, The Modern Prometheus (1818), "the first science fiction novel." Copies of the books (in various formats) are available at all local public libraries.
Join us on Friday, September 28, from 7 to 9 pm, at the Central Library, for a kick-off evening of
music, crafting, and books
.
Explore the themes of human character, secrecy, prejudice, life, creation, and the ethics of scientific advancement in Frankenstein and inspired texts.
Santa Barbara Reads will encompass everything from immersive theatre workshops to book discussions to zine making workshops, plus a costume ball! The library will also offer free copies of related books for all ages: board books, graphic novels, non-fiction texts, and more. Learn about Santa Barbara Reads programming.
"We're thrilled to be able to support the expansion of this treasured community program," said Anne Howard, the Foundation Board's President. "The Santa Barbara Public Library Foundation's mission is to fund large-scale initiatives, and we look forward to working with the library to grow Santa Barbara Reads in the coming years."
