Dear Fostering Promise Partners and Collaborators,

We are thrilled to share the excitement from our October strategic planning session! We gathered at the Sobrato Center to develop a comprehensive resource map, a crucial step in achieving our two-year implementation plan and laying the foundation for our Bay Area pilot project.

We were inspired by insights from our strategic advisors: young people with lived experience alongside board members and work group leaders as well as partners from philanthropy, social services, tech, law, and more. Together, we shared perspectives, connected resources, and brought a united and strategic focus to the launch of our pilot.

Please take a look at our Key Takeaways, and contact Melina Andreas to join one of our workgroups!

A Promising Roadmap

The graphic above provides a visual of the elements we believe all young adults aging out of foster care need on their journey toward the promising future they deserve: a housing readiness plan, access to their essential documents, a mentor who will support them up to age 30, a repository of available housing options, and a housing voucher—all of which are critical to their securing safe and stable housing.

We know implementing this roadmap successfully is going to take a village—and look how far we've come since our launch less than a year ago! Thank you for your continued support. Together, we’re on the right path to achieving what once seemed impossible—eradicating the Bay Area's foster-care-to-homelessness pipeline by ensuring that every young person aging out of foster care has a safe place to call home, a caring mentor, and hope for a promising future.

Look for Us in the News Soon!

We're excited to share that the San Jose Mercury News attended our planning session and will be publishing an article about our work in their Holiday Wish Book. Keep an eye out for the feature in the November or December Wish Book!

Support for Fostering Promise

Last month, we lost a true icon: my mentor, whom I fondly called Pops, and the father of my childhood best friend and Board Member Chris Clay. Roy Clay Sr. was more than a trailblazer; he was a pioneer who helped shape Silicon Valley and opened doors for countless African Americans in tech and beyond. As the first Black executive at Hewlett Packard, he founded their computer division, laying a powerful foundation for future generations. I am deeply honored by Mr. Clay’s family’s request for donations to Fostering Promise in his memory in lieu of flowers. Rest in power, Mr. Clay. You will be dearly missed, but your legacy will live on. Read about Mr. Clay in USA Today.

As 2024 winds down, please consider investing in this effort by donating and sharing our work with your network.

With your support, Fostering Promise remains laser-focused on cultivating a future in which every foster youth ages out with a safe place to call home, the support of a caring mentor, and hope for a promising future!

Thank you so much for sharing your talents and your treasures! We couldn't do it without you. 😊
