Therese Yvette Brelivet was called home to our Heavenly Father on May 3, 2021 at the age of 89. Therese was born in San Francisco, California on April 14, 1932 to Charles and Josephine Brelivet of Kergloff, France. In her late teens, Therese chose to live out her faith by joining the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange.

Therese (aka Sister Stephanie) taught at St. Bernard’s High School in Eureka, California before becoming principal from 1960-1968. Her influence on the students was recently expressed by the outpouring of well wishes and heartfelt letters she received when alumni were informed of her failing health.

After leaving the convent, Therese spent many years as a counselor and teacher in the Grant Joint Union High School District in the Sacramento area. Therese was dedicated to her Catholic faith and was a member of the St. John the Baptist Church in Folsom where she served as a lector and Eucharistic Minister. She also enjoyed visiting the elderly and infirm of the parish where she would often conduct services and bring the Eucharist to those who were homebound or at senior care facilities.

Therese is predeceased by her parents and sister, Yvonne Brelivet Powers. She is survived by her nephew, Robert Powers (Ellen), of Virginia Beach, Virginia, a niece, Michelle Collay, and her children, Von Gagnon and Nina Collay, of Saco, Maine. She is also survived by her close friend Alice Marie Sulik, of Granite Bay, California. A special thank you to Ingrid Negru and her attentive staff at Woodview Care Home in Folsom, who lovingly cared for Therese for the past several years. Thank you to the staff at Suncrest Hospice as well for their unending support over the last few months.

Therese set aside a portion of her estate to continue to fund her annual St. Bernard’s Academy scholarship awards. Donations for this scholarship can be made in her name.
Gene Feist

with his family in 2018.
Eugene P. Feist (LCDR. USN, Ret.), born November 5, 1934 in Velva, North Dakota, died on June 27, 2021, in Prescott, Arizona from complications of Parkinson’s Disease. Gene is survived by his wife, Mary and two children, Margo Christensen (Brad), of Prescott, AZ, Paul Feist of Eureka, CA, and two granddaughters, Savannah McReynolds and Sierra Christensen. He is predeceased by his parents, Joe and Ruth (Olson) Feist, his sisters Phyllis Kriese and Marcella Ramsbacher, and is survived by his sister Ramona, and brothers Neal, Donovan and Curtis, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Following graduation as Salutatorian of the Class of 1952 from Velva High School (his brother Neal was Valedictorian), Gene enlisted in the United States Navy and went on to serve with distinction for 25 years. During that time, he completed College (Minot State), Officer’s Candidate School, became a U.S. Navy pilot (F-8 Crusader jets), and earned his Master’s Degree in Nuclear Physics. Following several tours in the West Pacific, during the Viet Nam conflict, aboard aircraft carriers, he received orders to teach Physics and Math at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, where he met his wife, Mary, and they married on July 27, 1968.

After retiring from the Navy in 1977, Gene and his family moved to Eureka, CA where they lived until 2013. He taught High School Physics and Mathematics at St. Bernard Academy for 25 years and maintained the computer lab there and at Pacific Union School in Arcata, CA until he retired in 2001.

Gene and Mary moved to Prescott Valley, Arizona in 2013, and have enjoyed being close to family and friends. Until the onset of Covid-19 and the advancement of Parkinson’s Disease, they both enjoyed traveling abroad and to many family reunions in various parts of the Country and were so happy to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends in 2018.

The family expresses their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Prescott Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their excellent, kind and compassionate care of Gene during his time there.

Gene’s wish is for no funeral service and for his ashes be scattered on the property where he was born. If desired, donations may be made in his memory to St. Bernard Academy, 222 Dollison St., Eureka, CA 95501.
Facilities Upgrades - We Need Your Help

Crusader generosity keeps coming!

We have a wonderful SB alum who will match EVERY donation up to a total of $100,000. Your dollar will double in value immediately. That’s one hundred of us donating $1,000. Or 20 of us donating $5,000. Or…you get the idea. $500 donations help great kids get the St. Bernard’s life-changing experience! And remember, your $500 gift becomes a $1,000.

It has been a year of giving. Thanks in large part to one amazing family, we are investing more money in our facilities this summer and fall then we’ve seen at SB in decades! Help us make a difference for kids for the next 25 years, 50 years, 100 years.

Building projects that have started or are starting soon: new roof, new exterior paint, new windows, bathroom upgrades, locker room and weight room upgrades, and a brand new multi-media (podcast +) classroom.

Sister Stephanie/Therese Brelivet – may she rest in peace – left a large section of her estate to St. Bernard’s Academy.

If Sister can give a six-figure gift to St. Bernard’s – what can we do? What can you do? We can all make a lasting difference for our SB family.

Thank you!
