We Remember....
Whether you are in DC for the March for Life or following along at home (as you can), this weekend is a good time for the pro-life movement to pause and reflect.
Both nationally and locally, the landscape has changed quite drastically. This time last year, we celebrated the overturn of Roe vs Wade after fifty years, even as we geared up for an expected pro-abortion ballot initiative. This year, we are a bit more somber, for while the nation has been unshackled from the tyranny of abortion-on-demand, our state has jumped right back into the fray.
For many years, we have called our local event to commemorate the anniversary of Roe vs Wade the "Roe Remembrance." We will again hold it this year, and we have a great lineup of speakers.
The Roe Remembrance will be held on Monday, January 22nd at noon. This year it will be held on the West Lawn of the Statehouse (the Statehouse interior is closed this week to events due to some long-scheduled art installation). The weather is looking great - sunny and mid to high 30s (practically balmy after the last week!). The event will follow the Respect Life Mass at 10:30 at St. Joseph Cathedral, celebrated by Bishop Earl K. Fernandes of the Diocese of Columbus.
I hope you will plan to join us this year.
The purpose of the event has always been three-fold: to remember the lives lost to and broken by abortion, especially in the last year; to show a strong and united pro-life voice at the seat of Ohio's state government; and to regroup and get energized for the year ahead. This year is no different.
But this year, I also hope that the local pro-life movement shows up in a show of strength and solidarity. We can not only show that we were not defeated in November, but it is very important to join together and see the strength in our numbers, our resolve, and our faith.
Plan to join us. Get more information (including parking details) on our website.
