Wednesday night I was privileged to participate in the Support of Israel gathering at the JCC. There were 31 speakers showing their support for the community, including politicians, dignitaries, Rabbis, representatives from the Latin, Muslim, and Christian communities, and more. There was music, prayers, poems, and very moving speeches.
As I was facing those in attendance, I could see the pain and fear in people’s eyes as the recitation of the horrible events was repeated by some of the speakers. I could see the camaraderie and comfort as our beloved Jewish community held one another. It was incredibly moving.
To our Jewish friends – I see you, I am thinking of you, and hoping you and your families are safe. You are in my heart space.
To those of you who are not members of the Jewish community, I encourage you to be strong allies. The Jewish community has experienced centuries of attempts at genocide. Now their one safe haven is being threatened in a most heinous and violent way. It is not acceptable. Period. We as allies have the capacity to serve as educators to do work against antisemitism. I am here to support you in that effort.
Best,
