We Welcome Our New Associate Rector!
An Important Message from Fr. Paul

I'm happy to share the good news that we have called Fr. Bernie Pecaro to serve as our new Associate Rector!

For those of you who know Fr. Bernie and his wife Sylvia, you will know that this is a homecoming of sorts. Fr. Bernie served as the curate at St. Paul's in the late '90s. Over the past 23 years since leaving St. Paul's, he has served as rector of St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Pompano Beach. With St. Martin's now merging with St. Mary Magdalene in Coral Springs, Fr. Bernie has resigned from his position as rector and looks forward to joining our pastoral team at St. Paul’s.

A native of south Florida, Fr. Bernie and his family live in Boynton Beach, just over the border with Delray. They have lived there since his days serving as curate at St. Paul's.

I first met Fr. Bernie on an Episcopal clergy mission trip to Jamaica in 2012. On that mission trip I came to know him as a humble, good-humored, and prayerful priest. I discovered later that he serves in leadership on the National Cursillo Committee. He has served as clergy representative to the Youth Commission of the Diocese of Southeast Florida. Like me, he has also served as diocesan chaplain to the Daughters of the King. I encourage you to read Fr. Bernie’s biography attached to this announcement.

We look forward to welcoming (back) Fr. Bernie, Sylvia, and their family as he becomes our new Associate Rector.

Fr. Bernie's ministry with us will begin the First Sunday of Advent, November 27 & 28. This is an appropriate time to begin a new ministry, as Advent is the beginning of the new Church year! In the meantime, I know that you join me in praying for Fr. Bernie, Sylvia, and their family in this time of transition and new beginnings.

Rector’s Fall Bible Study Continues Tonight!
Thursday Evenings at 7:00 p.m.,
through November 18

How do the scriptures speak to us today? Where do our stories mirror biblical stories? Herbert O’Driscoll, beloved Anglican preacher, storyteller, author, and hymn writer, invites us to imagine what the “back story” of our favorite scriptures might have been.

Join Fr. Paul on Thursday evenings for our Rector’s Fall Bible Study!

This Thursday's session covers Gospel stories found in Luke 2:22-52, Matthew 2:13-23, and Matthew 3:13-17.

The Bible Study will be online via Zoom in October and in November go to a hybrid of online and in-person. Our text, “A Greening of Imaginations,” by Herbert O’Driscoll, can be purchased on Amazon.

Church School Has Begun!
Sundays at 9:45 a.m. in the Guild Room. The Nursery is also now open.
Sunday School for children 3 through 10 years old is back in person at St. Paul's!

We have a great new curriculum called "Seedlings" and a dedicated group of teachers. Many thanks to Janet Thompson, Irene Kane, Ann Caldwell and Liz Ryan. The children will be learning stories from the Old and New Testament, all about the People of God and the Episcopal Church through storytelling, puppetry, arts & crafts and other creative activities!

Parents drop their child off at 9:45 am in the Guild Room (look for the big red Sunday School sign in the Courtyard) each Sunday and the teachers will bring the children into the church at the Peace (approximately 10:40 am) to join their families before communion!

Register your child below to make sure there are enough materials and snacks!
Take a Virtual Trip to Machu Picchu with St. Paul’s Episcopal Church!

Have you missed traveling the last year and a half because of the restrictions imposed by the pandemic? Join us for an exciting three-part virtual trip to magical Machu Picchu.

On Sunday, November 14, following the 10:00 a.m. service, there will be a Forum in the Parish Hall (in person and zoomed) at which our university historians, Sandy Norman and Jane Day, will give us a lecture on the Incan Empire and Machu Picchu. Those of us who have visited Machu Picchu can also share personal anecdotes and photos.

The forum will set the stage for a group visit on Wednesday, November 17 at 1:00 PM to the magnificent Machu Picchu and the Golden Empires of Peru exhibition that is having its world premiere at the Boca Raton Museum of Art. This all-new, immersive museum experience will transport us to the Incan city of Machu Picchu, the jewel of the cradle of civilization in the Southern Hemisphere. We will walk among a spectacular selection of 192 ancient artifacts from royal tombs, including rarely seen gold objects that belonged to noble Andean lords and have never travelled outside of Peru. We will plunge into an amazing experience of the Amazon rainforest via technological breakthroughs in virtual reality footage of Machu Picchu (filmed while it was empty during the pandemic). Click on this link to get a taste of what you will be seeing at the exhibit:

Registration: We received a group rate from the Boca Raton Museum of Art of $42 per person for the full immersive experience of the Machu Picchu and the Golden Empires of Peru exhibit. Please indicate your plan to join us on this exciting trip by registering by November 1:
To safely and securely pay online click here. Once you reach St. Paul's secure online payment & giving page, select "Other (Please specify in the comments box below)" from the drop down box, enter the amount ($42 per ticket), and simply note "Machu Picchu Exhibit" in the comment box provided on the page.

To pay by cash or check, stop by or send payment to the St. Paul's Church office. If you are paying by check, make the check out to St. Paul's Episcopal Church with "Machu Picchu Exhibit" in the memo section.

Mail -  If you prefer to send your pledge or other donation by check, please send your contribution to: St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 188 S. Swinton Avenue, Delray Beach, FL 33444.
Strengthening Ministries for Tomorrow’s Faithful

To ensure that the work of St. Paul’s lives on, remember St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in your estate planning. With a gift in your will, trust, or in some other way, you can make a lasting impact on those served through the mission and ministry of St. Paul’s.

One sentence in your will can make a lasting difference to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. To leave a gift in your will, simply share this sentence with your attorney or financial planner:

“I hereby bequeath to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Delray Beach, FL, the sum of $ (or % of my estate) to support its mission and ministry (or to the Legacy Fund of the Endowment Fund.)”

To talk with a member of the Endowment Fund Board about how you can continue to support the mission and ministry of St. Paul’s with a legacy gift, please contact Caren Kilpatrick, our Parish Administrator, at 561-276-4541 or caren@stpaulsdelray.org.
