(Fresno, CA) – The team at United Way Fresno and Madera Counties is proud to announce the organization has been selected as the 2022 Nonprofit of the Year for the 31st District by Assemblymember Dr. Joaquin Arambula.
United Way is one of approximately one hundred nonprofits that are being honored by state senators and assemblymembers for outstanding contributions to the communities they serve.
Lindsay Fox, the President and CEO of the local United Way chapter, says that the award is a “huge honor” but says that she also recognizes local partnerships are critical to her team’s successes. “There is no United Way without other nonprofit organizations,” she says. “Everything we are able to do is because so many Californians share our passion for race and wealth equity and are willing to work collaboratively to dismantle and challenge systems that uphold inequities across our state. It is because of our many trusted community partners – the ones who uplift us, share in the burden of the work, and revel in the victories of any progress made – that we are able to reach the populations who are struggling most and provide them with nonjudgmental support when it’s available and advocate for them where there are gaps."
Assemblymember Arambula has been a vocal supporter of United Way’s Free Tax Prep program, as well as a dedicated advocate for expanding federal and state cashback tax credits for California’s most vulnerable populations himself. Of his decision to honor United Way as his Nonprofit of the Year choice, he said, “They have steadfastly served the Central Valley for nearly 100 years, assisting our most vulnerable communities when they urgently need support and direction. This was clearly shown by the United Way’s efforts to meet the challenge of a once-in-a-century pandemic. It illustrates on a larger scale what United Way does, by working with its network of partners, to touch the lives of many people, each and every day.”
Assemblymember Arambula, along with Senator Anna Caballero, will be co-hosting a town hall this morning at 10 am to spread awareness about digital equity in Fresno County. United Way and dozens of other local organizations are sponsoring the event as members of the Fresno Coalition for Digital Inclusion (FCDI).
