Kai land proposal,
defeated 4-3 1/6,
coming back 2/3
|
On Jan. 6, the Oro Valley Town Council defeated a general plan amendment and zoning change that would have allowed multi-family development on a parcel of ground just south of Tangerine Road.
On Jan. 20, the council approved “reconsideration” of the proposal on the Kai-Capri land, a 13.44-acre piece of ground just east of First Avenue.
With reconsideration, the question will be back on the council agenda Feb. 3.
Chamber member Kai Enterprises has requested the general plan amendment and rezoning from commercial to multi-family residential use. Seeing no demand for the commercial use, owners and government went through an 8-month process of public input and project adjustment to arrive at the multi-family proposal.
It was defeated 4-3 on Jan. 6. On Jan. 20, Councilwoman Joyce Jones-Ivey, who had voted against the original proposal, requested reconsideration. Councilman Dr. Harry “Mo” Greene II seconded, and the motion to reconsider was approved 4-3, with Mayor Joe Winfield and Councilman Steve Solomon joining Jones-Ivey and Greene. Council members Vice Mayor Melanie Barrett, Josh Nicolson and Tim Bohen voted not to reconsider.

Boreale Law shares
details in next PPP
|
The second round of the Paycheck Protection Program has opened, with $284 billion available to small businesses, non-profits, self-employed and independent workers to get through the pandemic.
Chamber member attorney Mike Boreale of Boreale Law writes that, “much like the first iteration of the PPP loan program, PPP loans are eligible for forgiveness if the borrower can show that they spent at least 60 percent of the funds on payroll. The remaining 40 percent of the loan may be used on other eligible costs, including mortgage expenses, rent, utility payments, personal protective equipment, other gear to protect workers; supplier costs, operations expenditures, and property damage caused by public disturbances in 2020.”
Criteria for eligibility include demonstrated loss of gross revenue of at least 25 percent, employment of fewer than 300 workers, and other considerations.
Mike can help; give him a call at 520-334-2069, or go to borealelaw.com.

Splendido gets a top-25
U.S. award for wellness
|
Chamber Copper member Splendido, an all-inclusive community in Oro Valley for those 55 and better, has won the 2020 ICAA NuStep Beacon Award.
Only 25 senior living communities in North America received this prestigious award, and among them, Splendido ranked 6th, the highest in Arizona. The honor recognizes the community’s success in fostering a wellness-centered environment for all who live and work there.
“We’re very proud of the work we do at Splendido, especially as it relates to wellness for residents and employees,” said James Edwartoski, Splendido’s executive director. “It’s wonderful to be recognized, and even more gratifying to know that our efforts to foster and encourage a healthy and dynamic community have long-term benefits for those who live and work here.”
Wellness is typically defined by seven key dimensions: emotional, physical, intellectual, social, spiritual, vocational and environmental. When each of these dimensions is equally nurtured and prioritized, it can enhance a sense of well-being among residents. It is this commitment and acknowledgement of how important wellness is for older adults that elevates resident health to new heights.
Splendido offers all-inclusive living for adults 55 years and better through the 10,000-square-foot Saluté Spa & Fitness Center, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, 24-hour concierge service, multiple restaurants and lounges, an 18-hole putting course and cinema.
