Fall is a wonderful time for wildflowers in Florida! The milder weather makes it a perfect time to get out and explore the abundance of incredible seasonal blooms. It is also a great time to plant natives in your landscape.

Climate Change and Florida's Native Plants

October 7-13 was Florida Climate Week, coordinated by the VoLo Foundation. Florida’s low-lying coastal landscape, subtropical climate and continued rapid development make it particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. We are already observing shifts in our native plant communities and scientists are working to better understand other impacts and how to mitigate them. Learn more here.

Botany in Context Webinar Series

We are thrilled to announce a six-part webinar series with Jim Folsom, PhD.

This crash course in basic botany for the beginner will take us on a journey from understanding plant anatomy and physiology to learning how plants are named and the botanical jargon that will demystify plant keys and identification. Dr. Folsom will contextualize it all in Florida native plant communities.

It’s that time of year again!

Join us at 10 am on Saturday, Dec. 7 for a fun, family-friendly day in the forest to cut your very own fresh-from-Florida Christmas tree in the Ocala National Forest.

Wildlife Biologist Liz Krienert will introduce us to the Ocala National Forest and the incredible habitats being managed and restored there.
