Looking Forward: Thoughts from Dr. DeLauro
  • What are your hopes for the podiatric profession moving forward?
  • What role do you feel the ACPM should play to enhance the profession?
"With recent examination changes, certification will impact graduating residents and our profession. That path necessitates board certification for insurance plan access, hospital privileging and for staying competitive among one’s peers. Once certified we must continue to be on par with our allopathic and osteopathic medicine colleagues and continue to enhance our education with maintenance of certification programs. This will be another way to align with our medical colleagues and continue to gain respect among other medical specialists."
"Despite our profession’s surgical advances, I nevertheless feel that the importance of podiatric medicine needs to be stressed to a greater degree. Having a robust college to educate our peers in the podiatric medical field is a necessity to achieve this goal. With the current ACPM e-Pod learning library and the ACPM mini modules, I feel that this is a great step in the right direction and look forward to more educational opportunities and resources for ACPM Fellows."
