Guardians of the Gardens
Fall Contest
NEW IBERIA, La. --- It’s autumn and Jefferson Island Rip Van Winkle Gardens are in need of guardians for the gardens!

The public is invited to participate and use your imagination to make scarecrows for the gardens' Halloween season. The scarecrows will be on display October 5 until the last week of the month. The deadline to turn in your scarecrow is Sept. 30.

Participants are encouraged to use recyclable items as building materials. Paper and cardboard products are not recommended as they will not hold up in the humid and rainy gardens. Garden visitors will vote on the scarecrow/guardians and winners will receive a variety of prizes.

  • 1st place – one night stay, plus a one year membership (includes admission to the gardens and mansion)
  • 2nd place - $50 gift certificate to CafΓ© Jefferson
  • 3rd place – one year membership

To participate, or for more information, please e-mail Nick Delcambre at or call (337) 359-8525.
