Join United Way of York County on #GivingTuesday, November 27th, in the fight against homelessness by supporting the Men's Warming Center.
The mission of the Men's Warming Center is to offer safe shelter, a warm meal, and fellowship to homeless men during the coldest months of the year. Being the only men's emergency, winter shelter in our area, the Men's Warming Center has been a community staple for York County since 2007.
Bethel United Methodist Church graciously serves as the host site for the shelter, with community volunteers to help the shelter run smoothly. A total of 175 different men were provided winter shelter during November 2017 through March 2018. Each night, the men receive a meal and are provided a warm bed to sleep in. They are also supplied basic necessities; such as, blankets, sleeping mats, coats, socks, gloves and other weather appropriate attire. Additionally, case management and follow-up care are provided to address long-term needs as space becomes available in appropriate programs in our community.

The number of homeless individuals in York County is at an all-time high, while unfortunately, there are few available shelters. With the approaching winter months and declining temperatures, it's vital that the Men's Warming Center remains open, so that these less-fortunate individuals are able to have a safe place to keep warm. It is essential that our community continues to provide support for the Men's Warming Center. Without this emergency shelter, many men will be forced to sleep outside during the coldest months of the year, when other shelter alternatives are at capacity. Read more
In partnership with WRHI's Toys for Happiness and The Herald's Empty Stocking Fund, the United Way of York County, SC, continues to collect and distribute toys that provide magical holiday memories for children in York County.

This combined program is titled Holiday Partners and it provides holiday toys to children ages birth to 14 years of age.  Holiday Partners depends on the generosity of the community either through financial or toy donations and/or through volunteering in the toy warehouse.  You can be part of providing holiday magic to an underprivileged child in York County through your gift of time or treasure.
