Free to Give:

Commitment Sunday Is October 25

This Sunday is Commitment Sunday. It’s also Reformation Sunday, and that feels just right. Luther’s big discovery was that God’s love isn’t something we earn. It’s a gift. Jesus put it simply in John 8: “If the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.” We don’t give to earn our place. We give because we’ve already been welcomed.

The Stewardship Team invites you to think about 2027 and how your gifts, joined with everyone else’s, can help us welcome all people to grow in faith and serve in Jesus’ name.

This week’s mailing included a commitment card and a chart showing what growing your giving by 1% of household income would look like. For some, that’s a doable step. For others, money is tight right now, and we understand.

Maybe this is a year to grow. Maybe it’s a year to hold steady, or simply to check the box that says “We’ll give as we’re able.” It may also be a year to give more of your time and talents. Whatever you give, give it with a glad heart.

Before you fill out your card, take a quiet minute to pray. Don’t ask what you should give. Ask what you’d love to give.

Bring your card to worship Sunday at 9:30 a.m. so we can bless everyone’s commitments together. Can’t be there? Mail it, drop it at the office, or put it in the offering plate by November 15. Please also turn in your Time and Talent form, even if you’ve filled one out before. Get the form below.

Thank you for your generosity. Together, we can do far more in Jesus’ name than we could ever ask or imagine.

Story Review-A Quick Question about Allegiance

This week’s story deviated from Pastor Karen’s sermon, but it was also a time when Jesus was questioned by the Jewish leaders. Some leaders wanted to trick Jesus into saying something that would get him in trouble. They asked him, “Should people pay taxes to the king or not?” Jesus knew they were trying to trap him. He asked them to show him a coin. When they did, he said, “Whose picture is on this coin?” They answered, “Caesar’s.”

Then Jesus told them, “Give Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give God what belongs to God.” His answer was so smart that the leaders were amazed, and they left him alone. Ms. Laury shared a video about the story and different coins with the children. At the end she gave each child a gold coin and asked them to remember that while people may owe certain things to earthly rulers (like taxes), their ultimate loyalty and devotion belong to God.

What fun the kids had at "Trunk or Treat!"

Sneak Preview-The Greatest Commandments

The Pharisees tried once again to test Jesus—this time by asking which commandment was the greatest. Jesus answered clearly: the greatest commandment is to love God with all your heart, soul, and mind, and the second is to love your neighbor as yourself. He explained that all of Scripture—“the Law and the Prophets”—rests on these two commands.

Then Jesus turned the tables and asked them a question: “What do you think of the Messiah? Whose son is he?” They answered, “The son of David.” Jesus responded by quoting Scripture showing David calling the Messiah “Lord,” which implied the Messiah was greater than David. This left the Pharisees unable to answer, and from that point on, they stopped questioning him.

Express Your Gratitude!

The sign-up sheet is located on the narthex bulletin board - please consider filling in a spot with requested information.

At the same time you will be beautifying the church!

Distilled Water Always Needed

The flowing water of our font is a beautiful reminder of the abundance of God’s grace to us as his baptized children. But that water evaporates quickly-especially through the winter months!  Next time you’re at the grocery store, perhaps you could purchase a jug or two of distilled water for the font.

Water can be dropped off at the office or in the storeroom next to the Finance office.

Thank you for your help! Your donation is really appreciated.

Email and Text Spoofing and Scam

More and more congregations, and ministries are being targeted by scammers and phishing attacks. These emails or text messages often pretend they are a pastor or bishop and ask for private conversation, or the need for a favor, or to purchase gift cards. These attacks are a phishing or spoofing scam. REMEMBER... PASTOR KAREN WOULD NOT ASK FOR A FAVOR, PRIVATE CONVERSATION, OR GIFT CARDS in such a manor. If you feel you have receive a "spoofing" or "scam" text or email please make sure to check the senders email address, this is a first clue. If you are unsure please call the office or contact Pastor Karen directly.
