BBB & Business Scams

In the May Access & Issues Group meeting we heard from the President of BBB MN and ND, Susan Lloyd. She highlighted different business scams and what we should do to stay informed and stay ahead of these.

You can check out her presentation on the video below. BBB Scam Tracker is a free tool anyone can use to report suspected scams. Your reports warn others so they can avoid similar cons. Next month we will hear from our City Administrator, Justin Miller, about the Franchise Fees the city is discussing.

As a reminder, Access & Issues is the second Friday of each month at 8am via Zoom. It is open to all members, and includes a topic related to our local business community, as well as an around the horn update from our local and elected officials in attendance. If you would like to be added to the monthly reminder email, please let me know.

Deadline: August 9

Happy Anniversary!

Thank you to these local businesses for investing in the Chamber and our community! Here’s to many more!

Have you tried this?

Great test for teenagers

Traitify is a visual personality assessment tool that recommends careers, jobs, and education based on personality and preference data. Users sort through a short series of images, answering "Me" or "Not Me" to generate individualized results in about 90 seconds. It’s been widely used by community-based organizations, educators, and students. Traitify is free to all residents of Dakota and Scott Counties and is available on both the Dakota County and Scott County websites.

Meet your Ambassadors:

Bob Curtis

Our Chamber Ambassadors give back so much of their time and talent to the Chamber and our business community. They attend events, write thank you notes, deliver membership and anniversary plaques, and more. Throughout the year we will highlight them. Make sure and say HI when you see them around! Our next Ambassador is…

Your Name:

Bob Curtis

Title:

Agency Owner

Company:

Bob Curtis Agency-Farmers Insurance

Your Specialty:

Auto, Home, Umbrella, Cabin, Boat, Motorcycle, 4x4, Campers; Business Insurance, Works Comp; Life Insurance; Group, Individual & Medicare Health Insurance; and Retirement

Reason you like doing business in Lakeville:

Lakeville is such a thriving town, with a lot of activities to do. The local business owners are fun to get to know, are supportive of each other, love being here and supporting our youth.

Years as a Chamber Member:

20 Years sometimes in 2024

Years as an Ambassador: 20 Years

Favorite thing about being a Lakeville Chamber member:

Meeting local business owners, learning about their businesses and being an ambassador.

Best advice you would give to a new Chamber Member: Be involved. Your membership only works if you get out and meet other business owners and develop relationships with them.

Your must-attend Chamber event, and why: The Landscape and home expo is my favorite event because I get to meet and talk to hundreds of potential new clients, talk to many of my current clients and interact with local business owners.

Give us one of your most fun (or funniest!) moments in your business career: The best moment in my business is when a client told me: “Bob you are the reason I choose to do business with your agency and Farmers Insurance. What I see you do and support locally, makes me happy to support your business.”

Favorite go-to meal at one of our restaurants: Steak tacos at LBC

Favorite thing to do for fun around town: Pan O Prog cruise night, Live music at LBC and taking advantage of the trail around Lake Marion.
