LETTER FROM FR. JOSEPH IN RESPONSE TO THE RECENT SHOOTING IN THE CATHOLIC SCHOOL IN MINNEAPOLIS
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Our hearts are broken as we mourn the horrific tragedy in Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis on Aug. 27. Two innocent children, only 8 and 10 years old, lost their lives, and many others were wounded while gathered for their first school Mass. It is almost unbearable to imagine such suffering in the very place meant to be a sanctuary of God’s love.
We unite our sorrow with that of Pope Leo XIV, who offers “heartfelt condolences and the assurance of spiritual closeness,” especially to “the families now grieving the loss of a child.”
In this darkness, we cling to Christ, who wept at the tomb of His friend and who promises eternal life to the little ones.
Let us storm heaven with our prayers—for the children who have gone to God, for the healing of the wounded, for the strength of their families, and for the comfort of the entire Annunciation Catholic School community. May the Lord of mercy turn our grief into deeper faith and our pain into prayer for one another.

What's happening at St. Antoninus?
1. Next Sunday, September 7, is a truly historic day for the Church! Blessed Carlo Acutis will be canonized a Saint. Carlo, who died in 2006 at just 15 years old, left behind an amazing testimony of love for Jesus and a life of holiness that makes him a powerful modern-day role model for all young people. More inside .
2. Religious Education for our children will be starting next Sunday September 7. You must register your children soon , both for new or existing students. Pls see Sr Mercy Egbeji to register.
3. This coming Friday, September 5 at 12 Noon, we will have the First Friday Mass in honor of the Sacred Heart of Jesus . Then at 2pm, Alliance of Two Hearts Eucharistic Vigil. Confessions available from 2-4pm
4. This coming Saturday, September 6, and every First Saturday of the month, come to our Monthly Charismatic Healing Mass at 3PM . Come at 2pm for the First Saturday Devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Confessions will be available from 2-3pm
5. Heads up! Divine Adoration Prayer Group praise & worship celebration on Saturday, Sept 20th from 9am to 6pm. The theme is “Eucharistic Worship.” Free breakfast, lunch and dinner. See flyer inside.

Next Sunday, September 7, is a truly historic day for the Church! Blessed Carlo Acutis will be canonized a Saint. Carlo, who died in 2006 at just 15 years old, left behind an amazing testimony of love for Jesus and a life of holiness that makes him a powerful modern-day role model for all young people and for all of us.
At the 10am Mass next Sunday, the priest will bless a large image of the new saint, and everyone will receive a holy card to take home.
After Mass, we will go to the rectory dining room to watch an inspiring film on the life of St. Carlo Acutis—complete with popcorn & sandwiches! Parents, please make sure your sons and daughters are present for this celebration.
And there’s more! Inspired by Carlo’s witness, we will begin exploring the creation of a new youth group in our parish for high school boys and girls, perhaps to be called St. Carlo Acutis Society or whatever the group decides using his name. The objective is for. this group to meet regularly for Eucharistic Adoration, teachings, and sharing on how to live out the Catholic faith in daily life—just as Carlo did, balancing his love for God with his hobbies, friendships, and passion for technology. Please pray for this intention. St Carlo, pray for us.
Pier Giorgio Frassati
On that same day, next Sunday September 7. another young man will be canonized along with Carlo. He is Pier Giorgio Frassati . Born in Turn in 1901, Pier Frassati had a zest for life—he was an avid mountain climber, athlete, and enjoyed being outdoors with friends. Yet his joy was always rooted in spiritual fervor and generous service, especially to the poor and sick.

Young people have come of age in a “savage time”—anxiety soars, culture darkens, and false dogmas prevail.
While there is much to be concerned about with regard to “the anxious generation,” there are likewise many reasons to hope.
During the 2024 Good News Conference, Monsignor James Shea described the Christian responsibility to offer Christ’s mercy to young people through example, encouragement, and challenge.

This class is part of what is called RCIA (now caled OCIA) . RCIA stands for: “Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.”
This program is for:
- Those adults 17 years old and older who are not baptized and want to inquire about becoming Catholic OR
- Those who are baptized non-Catholic Christians who want to consider becoming Catholic. OR
- Adult Catholics (17 years or older) who have not received Confirmation or Holy Communion.
