Annette Joyner was selected by the American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture to be a participant in the “On the Farm” STEM professional development event in Syracuse, New York this past May. The training was designed to bring science to life for participants with the help of beef cattle ranchers, researchers, nutritionists and veterinarians. The Beef Checkoff Program funded development of the “On the Farm” training and supporting resources.
Mrs. Joyner teaches at Mountain View Middle School in Alamogordo, NM and was selected from a very competitive field of applicants. Out of 550 teachers and agriculture professionals who applied, only 32 were selected from around the country. Mrs. Joyner, the only New Mexico attendee, learned about how to integrate STEM into agriculture and all about the calf to cow to table operation utilizing STEM methods.
