Prayer Guides

Are you looking for a prayer guide for the summer? Christ Covenant creates monthly prayer guides for our supported workers, for our church, and a weekly prayer guide. Our monthly prayer guides can be picked up at the Welcome Center in the main lobby as well as found online and below. Below are a few specific prayer items we hope you will join us in prayer for this week.

Supported Workers of the Week: Ben and Kim Church serving as Church Planters at Christ Our Refuge Church in Kampala, Uganda. Pray for the Lord to raise up godly men who serve their families, church, and community with the love of Christ. Pray for the ministry of Reformed Mission of East Africa (RMEA), a board formed by Mission To the World (MTW) East Africa. Pray that this board would be an effective avenue of partnership between United States churches and MTW on the ground in East Africa as they work together with their national partners. Pray for Kim and the kids as they are in the United States for home assignment. Pray for Ben as he prepares to also come to the United States at the end of this June for home assignment. Pray for Pastor Rodgers Atwebembeire as he transitions to pastor Christ Our Refuge while Ben is away, and that the church will remain healthy and stable. Pray for the Lord to provide the financial support the church family needs.

Unreached People Group: Juhayna Fezara in Northern Sudan: The Juhayna Fezara people number 389,000 and are mainly nomadic. They are a challenging group to reach because they are long-time Muslim believers and their way of life makes it difficult for Christian workers to stay with them long enough to build trust and relationships. The New Testament has been translated into their Arabic language, so pray that they will have an opportunity and desire to read God’s Word. Pray that the seeds of the gospel will fall on softened hearts. Pray for Christian believes in Sudan to overcome barriers to be able to share Christ with this unreached people group.

We hope you will take time to submit your confidential prayer requests either online by clicking here or by email at prayer@christcovenant.org. Your pastors and staff are continually praying for you!

No Sunday School

Our Sunday School break began June 1 and goes through August 17. Fall Sunday School will kick-off on August 24, 2025. This is a rhythm for us as a church to take a Sunday School break during the summer, which allows a rest for our teachers and volunteers.

Little Ones Joining Us in Worship

June 1

Starting on Sunday, June 1, the entire B building, which houses our preschoolers during worship, is being renovated while school is on break. As a result, we will have these young ones, ages 2-5, with us during morning worship all summer long. This will be an adjustment for those of us who do not have little ones, as well as for those that do! We know that little people can wiggle and make big noises, so we ask that you give an abundance of grace to not just these children but to their families as we worship together.

During evening worship, classes are open and available for newborn through 4-years-old. All classes will be in the worship center.

We are going to try to keep the south lobby as a quiet space, but if you need to take restless children out for a bit, please feel free to use the north and main lobbies. We look forward to these children enjoying the new spaces when we kick off Sunday School on August 24. Thank you for being such an amazing covenant family to all our littlest ones!

If you have any questions, please contact Amy Wallace, our Director of Children’s Ministry.

Men's Fellowship Breakfast

Saturday, June 7

All men and their sons that are 12 years old or over are invited to join us for our Men’s Fellowship Breakfast on Saturday, June 7, at 8:00 am, in the Community Life Center.

Our featured presenter this month is Evan Avery. Evan is a financial planner, a fairly new husband, who is married to Kathryn for just over two years, and a soon-to-be father with a baby due in June. Evan has been at Christ Covenant for nine years and during that time he has been actively involved with the young professionals/young adults ministry and with small group leadership. He has also served as a youth group leader to two different groups of boys over the last seven years. Evan will share about the importance of seeking wise counsel and mentorship and encourage us to look for ways God might use us in the lives of younger men.

Men’s breakfasts are an opportunity for men from different walks of life and different stages of life to come together under the common bond of shared faith and encourage one another. These are also a great venue to interact with other men who you might not see in your regular circles and hopefully build new connections, some of which may last a lifetime. A consistent theme from men that have spoken at these breakfasts is the powerful impact that relationships with other men can have in the journey of faith. With that in mind, we hope that you will join us.

To help us measure how much food to order please RSVP by clicking here. If you have any questions, contact Amy Van Dusen.

Congregational Meeting

Sunday, June 8

The Session has called a congregational meeting for the purpose of voting on officer candidates and returning sabbatical officers. It will be held this Sunday, June 8, immediately following the morning worship service. Please note that those who attend morning worship in-person on Sunday, June 8, will be voting on these nominees. We will not have online or advance voting available. We look forward to your participation in electing new officers. Candidate biographies are available for pick up in all the lobbies of the worship center or by clicking here.

O Night

Tuesday, June 17

Join us for our next O Night! Our team of ambassadors for Christ shares the hope that we have with our neighbors in Matthews on the first and third Tuesdays of every month through September. You can serve in the community or with the prayer team in the south lobby. Our next O Night is Tuesday, June 17, from 7:00 pm - 8:15pm. We meet in the south lobby. We would love to see you!

Communion During Evening Worship

Sunday, June 22

We have an opportunity to observe communion together during evening worship on Sunday, June 22. We know that not everyone is able to attend morning worship for a wide variety of reasons. Therefore, we want to provide an opportunity to participate in the Lord’s Supper during evening worship. We are offering this quarterly throughout the year. We hope you will be able to join us.

HisAbilities Summer Respite Event

Volunteers Needed by June 27

Our HisAbilities ministry is excited to announce a new event for our growing respite ministry this summer, and we need volunteers! Our Summer Respite Event will be Saturday, July 19, from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm. Like our Respite Nights, this event presents a wonderful opportunity for our church to come alongside Christ Covenant families impacted by disability by providing a few hours of respite for parents while their children (younger or older) are cared for and engaged by a loving team of volunteers! It’s also a great time to make encouraging connections with this special part of our church body! Volunteers must be members of Christ Covenant, but no experience with disabilities is necessary. We seek to ensure all volunteers are serving in roles best suited to them. To learn more or register to volunteer please contact Amy Van Dusen by June 27.

Also, if you are a Christ Covenant family (members or regularly attending) impacted by disability or special needs who would benefit from participating in this Respite Event, please contact Amy Van Dusen by June 27.

Set Free Ministry Parent Group

Set Free is a ministry of Christ Covenant Church that provides counsel and help to those affected or trapped in sexual sin. More specifically, there exists a parent group for those who have children, or other loved ones, struggling with sexual sin. The group seeks to provide support and faithful prayer for these families. We equip parents with biblical resources to help disciple their loved ones in these struggles. If you are interested in joining our parent group, please contact Derek Wells for more information.

Senior Adult Sunday School

Our senior adult community is continuing to have Sunday School this summer, and everyone is welcome to attend! Sunday School is in the worship center in rooms 201 & 211, beginning at 9:00 am. The class is on “Finishing Our Course With Joy” and covers a wide variety of topics. If you have any questions, please contact Jenny Blackmon

Afghan Ministry Featured in MNA Video

Christ Covenant Church’s Afghan Ministry is featured in this month’s Mission to North America (MNA) Multiply video. The purpose of the Multiply videos is to highlight the PCA’s MNA church plant and vitality ministries. By watching these videos, it is the hope of MNA that PCA churches will be inspired and encouraged to take advantage of the resources available through MNA and consider how the Lord is calling them to serve and care for others.

Our Pastors Kevin DeYoung and Mike Miller are interviewed in the video as well as Afghan ministry team members. You can find the video by clicking here.
