CARVER CENTER CELEBRATES BLACK HISTORY MONTH

Carver Center honored three exceptional members of our community, Tom Kissner, president of the Port Chester/Rye chapter of the NAACP, Tyree Welch, role model and mentor to Port Chester youth and David Brown, 12+ year Manager for the Carver Market at our Black History Month celebration on February 17th.

The Port Chester High School's African American Club, Vanessa Clay-Williams/School Counselor and Keith Allen/Assistant Principal joined us as we recognized this deserving group of honorees.

It was a meaningful and intimate morning for all of us. We hope to bring this important celebration back to our pre-Covid format in 2023!

Our Volunteer-Extraordinaire, Mike Rubenstein, has been helping us prepare our Carver Market bags for distribution since last May. We couldn't do our important work without the much-needed and valued help from our volunteers.

IT'S LIT!

Our theme for our Project-Based Learning module for Mid-January through February at the Port Chester Middle School is "It's Lit".

"It's Lit" focuses on literacy through reading, and research. Our students are split into two groups. Groups A/C are working on "People of Interest" where they will research someone famous and compose an "all about me" paper and Groups B/D have chosen to work on creating a book summary after learning how to use informational text to support ideas about their topic of choice. 

Both sets of projects will help our students use their critical thinking, research and writing skills.  
FEEDING OUR CHILDREN
Healthy food = Healthy minds

In the month of January, we had 707 visits to our Carver Market. This month, we brought our Market back indoors and expanded the hours. We are excited to return to our Client Choice model where our guests individually select their food items. Our new hours are 1:00-5:30pm Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Our Food Service Program continues to prepare and deliver meals to the kids in our community. 864 snacks and 9,661 meals were served to the After School students at the four Port Chester Elementary Schools, the Port Chester Middle School, and to the teens who come to our Teen Center. 
CAREER EXPLORATION NIGHT FOR OUR TEENS
The future is bright!

Former Port Chester High School graduates came back to our Carver Teen Center and participated in a Career Exploration Night. Our inspirational speakers conveyed their experiences in finding success after high school in their chosen fields. They shared their professional journeys, tips for success and gave our current teens insights to guide them on their paths to discovery at this important stage of their development.
SPRING INTO BRIGHTER FUTURES WITH US

Join us on April 23 at the Hyatt Regency Greenwich as we honor Thomas F. Murphy, a former Carver Board Member and longtime supporter, and Children's Hope Chest, a great Carver partner.
