UWNCNM News and Updates
JANUARY 2023
United Way of North Central New Mexico (UWNCNM)
We are now the United Way of North Central New Mexico!

The new name was announced at a community event on Saturday, Jan. 14, in a program at the Genoveva Chavez Community Center in Santa Fe. A sneak peek event was held on Thursday, Jan. 12, at Santa Fe Brewing. The new name received a warm welcome from those in attendance, which included agency partners, business leaders, and community members from Santa Fe.

We've welcomed Santa Fe to our service area to ensure that United Way’s connections and resources continue to support the community. The new name, chosen after an extensive process, reflects UWNCNM’s responsiveness to the community of Santa Fe County, which became part of the organization’s service area in 2021.

“Our new name demonstrates our commitment to the region and all the people we serve,” says Rodney Prunty, President and CEO of UWNCNM. “Our presence and ability to serve our communities means that more of our neighbors will have a chance to build a life that supports their aspirations.”

UWNCNM thanks Bank of America for sponsoring both festivities, and Santa Fe Brewing and the City of Santa Fe, for sponsoring the two events at their locations.

Congratulations Attendance Poster Contest Winners
High School Level Attendance Poster -- 1st Prize Winner (Grade 11)
UWNCNM Rising Together Impact team has been working with community partners and schools in central New Mexico since 2017 with attendance being a major indicator of school success. As the team engages more with the youth through professional skill building, a poster contest was conceptualized and introduced to state schools. Over 200 posters were submitted, with grade levels kindergarten through high school allowed to participate. Winners were selected through a judging rubric that produced seven first-place entries.

A range from 1st grade to 11th grade were first-place winners! We look forward to this year’s contest and the creative entries it will bring.

Here’s a quote from Stephen Picha, Community School Coordinator at Valle Vista Elementary: "I wanted to let you know that what you modeled with the Attendance Poster competition, we are going to replicate internally at Valle Vista. We want our students and families to all get into getting excited about attending as close to every day as possible."

Our Impact Work

The African American Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce (AAGACC) conducted a supply drive for the Family Advocacy Center (FAC) last month and was successful in collecting over 100 items that included food, hats, and gloves.

Clients of the FAC salute AAGACC President/CEO Karla Causey (featured image) and the entire Chamber for making the effort of providing a generous supply donation.
January's Laundry Love event received a hefty supply donation from Iota Xi Omega Chapter, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. The laundry products that are donated to the Arroyo Services Lavanderia location support many unsheltered individuals who are in the most need of this service. This last event was shared with a heavy coat distribution from another organization helping to further support the community during a time where those in need would be exposed to other available services. Laundry Love enjoyed an exciting community moment when a client who has attended prior events brought books for the on-site children's library. Learn more about Laundry Love.
