APRIL COCKTAIL OF THE MONTH
Jungle Bird
Black seal rum, compari, pineapple juice, fresh lime and a dash of simple syrup, shaken, and served over ice with a cherry & orange twist
|
FUN FACT:

WHAT HAPPENS IN YPSI STAYS IN YPSI
After two years of dotting the I's and crossing the T's, we at the Sidetrack are ecstatic to finally announce the plans for our currently vacant second and third floors – The Depot Town Casino !
In partnership with Northern Michigan's Eubetcha Indian Tribe, the Depot Town Casino will, on two floors, feature approximately 100,000 square feet of 5 cent to one dollar slot machines, Roulette, Blackjack, Craps, Video Poker, and Keno. Unique to the Depot Town Casino, and separating itself from all other gaming venues, is that all winning bets placed during the course of a passing train will pay double.
Planned amenities will include an intimate acoustically perfect entertainment venue featuring top notch talent from Ypsilanti and surrounding areas, a rooftop lounge with two 18 person hot tubs with reclining seats, a bank of six Pro Series infrared golf simulators, an Orchid of Asia Spa (no affiliation we're told) and more. Also under consideration is a zip line starting on the Depot Town Casino rooftop, over the railroad tracks, and ending on top of the kitty corner, now under construction Thompson Block. Before any plans can be finalized, clearance is needed from the Federal Railroad Administration.
In the spacious and luxuriously appointed Casino lobby will be a 'conceived in Ypsilanti' fully restored 1948 Tucker Torpedo automobile (one of only 51 built), as well as a refrigerated plexiglas enclosure which will house the largest cheeseburger in the world. Confirmed by the Guinness Book of Records, this monumental burger measures at three feet tall, five feet wide, 1800 pounds with 300 pounds of cheese, tomatoes, and lettuce alone.
The Depot Town Casino is expected to attract up to 10,000 visitors a day. As regulars will confirm, parking in Depot Town is already at a premium so a parking plan needed to be confirmed before a casino could be considered. Thanks to the d
iligent work of Ypsilanti Mayor Beth Bashert and others, the 38 acre Ypsilanti Water Street Project will be the site of a seven level parking structure with two of the parking decks below ground level. The parking structure roof will be landscaped green space for use as a public plaza and dog park. Transportation from the structure to the Casino and all of Depot Town will be provided by an elevated series of continuously running fully automated forty passenger train cars called – in reverence to the City of Ypsilanti – the Ypeople Mover.
The Depot Town Casino and all it involves is scheduled for completion on April Fool's Day, 2021.

VODKABULARY
According to the Journal of Psychopharmacology (commonly found in your doctor's waiting room alongside Medical Economics Monthly and a 2016 People), the moderate consumption of Vodka has many health benefits.
One or two vodka drinks each day (this also includes wine and other spirits), lowers mortality, increases cardiovascular health, helps in combating Alzheimer's, Diabetes 2, and other health issues. Vodka is also found to help in the reduction of stress more effectively than the alcohol equivalent of red wine.
In Russian folklore, vodka was originally used for medicinal purposes and is said to have been a cure for everything from the common cold to migraine headaches.
So the doctor says to his patient, "I can't determine exactly what's wrong with you. I think it's due to excessive drinking. The patient says, "All right then. I'll come back when you're sober."
Our bartenders like Talking Vodka and, in fact, have a pretty good vodkabulary. Our bartenders would tell you that there are hundreds of different vodkas available, each distinctly different from the next.
We offer a great selection of vodkas including Grey Goose, Absolut, Ketel 1, Ciroc, Tito's, Van Gogh Double Espresso and others including flavored from raspberry to cucumber.
Our bartenders also have honorary medical degrees in the proper preparation and prescribing of quality vodka cocktails from our own Moscow Mule and everything from classic Martinis and Cosmopolitans to an awesome Pineapple Upside Down, Bomb Pops, and Kamikazes.

IT'S BOURBON, BABY!
We've been hearing a lot lately about three different quality bourbons from our bourbon loving regulars. BOOKER – an uncut and unfiltered true barrel bourbon perfect for easy going sipping.
LARCENY – a high proof bourbon with ties to the holy grail of bourbons, Papi Van Winkle, and BAKER Kentucky Small Batch – voted small batch Best of Show in 2016.
Those who know suggested we add one of these three highly rated bourbons to our backbar. After a critical and thoroughly enjoyable tasting, we made our decision. We've added all three to our selection of well rounded and desirable bourbons including Woodford Reserve, Basil Hayden, Bulliet and others.
Three new bourbons inspire three of our favorite bourbon related quotes :
*Creativity is 80% bourbon and 20% ice. - Jack Doom
*Always carry a flagon of bourbon in case of snake bite. Furthermore, always carry a small snake. - W.C. Fields
* I drink my bourbon neat, and live my life messy. - Matt Baker

We here at The Sidetrack know how much you guys love these NE IPAs, which is why we are excited to announce the impending arrival of our newest addition to the draft line-up...
BELLS OFFICIAL
Two great ingredients come together in this brew; pungent American hops and delicious wheat malt. This Hazy IPA is double dry-hopped (a combination of Mosaic, Citra, Azacca, Amarillo and El Dorado hops) resulting in complex peach, stone fruit and tropical notes with a dry finish and balanced bitterness. A refined beer for those who love hops and for those who prefer wheat beers. Go ahead and make it Official

Sidetrack Makes Reinhart Realty's 'Essential Guide to Ypsilanti'
Huge thank you to Reinhart Realty for including us in their 2019 guide, which covered many great places to dine in Ypsilanti. About The Sidetrack, they note,
"
Sidetrack has been a local destination since it opened its doors in 1850 and it’s easy to explain why. They serve some of the best pub food, pour some of the best beer, and offer it all in one of the best Ypsi atmospheres. Their burger—Our Famous Burger—was included on GQ’s 2005 round-up of
The 20 Hamburgers You Must Eat Before You Die
, and that’s just one of the reasons we recommend stopping by."

Be sure to check out the first collaboration beer
from the
Eastern Michigan University Fermentation Science
program!
YpsiAlehouse
and students and faculty from EMU have collaborated to design and brew a version of a Berliner
