The O&P Edge Article "PREVENTING THE BURN: IS THERE A ROLE FOR AFOS IN MITIGATING THE PAIN OF CLAUDICATION?"
Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) is a common circulatory problem in which narrowed blood vessels reduce blood flow to the limbs. PAD is a sign of fatty deposits and calcium building up in the walls of the arteries (atherosclerosis). Risk factors include aging, diabetes, and smoking.

Symptoms may include leg pain, particularly when walking. In severe cases, pain and tissue damage develop which may eventually lead to amputation in some cases.

Typically treatments include tobacco cessation, exercise, and a healthy diet are often successful treatments. When these changes aren’t enough, medications or surgery can help.

A recent study has shown that by adding an Ankle Foot Orthotic to the walking routine of a patient, you can reduce the pain in the calf muscles that happens with increased activity. The article from the O&P Edge explains more about the benefits.

Infinite Steps Amputee Support Group!!
The Amputee Support Group meets every third Wednesday of the month.

January 20th, Devon from DPI Adaptive Fitness will be logging in virtually to speak with the group about what role he plays in the amputee community.

Patients have the option of attending live in our Fairfax office and virtually over zoom, either in our Warrenton office or in the comfort of your own home. Amputees and family will be able to participate in our open peer support group, allowing them to share resources, life experiences, events, education and to create new relationships with other amputees, their friends & families in our community.

You can feel safe in knowing that our staff is starting to receive the Covid-19 vaccine.

This does not mean that we will change any of our protocols regarding cleaning, wearing masks, social distancing, hand washing, etc. We just thought there may be some comfort in knowing that we are continuing to take every precaution we can to make each visit as safe as possible.
