AI in Social Care: progress and plans

The Institute for Ethics in AI at Oxford University, Digital Care Hub and Casson Consulting are working with over 50 organisations to explore the responsible use of generative AI in social care.

Over the last year, the collaborative has produced ethical principles for AI; a care workers' statement on AI; and most recently a report on what people drawing on care and their unpaid carers want to see.

In the next few weeks, the collaborative will also publish an updated set of principles, guidance for care providers and a pledge for tech suppliers.

There are also some limited places available for the AI in Social Care Summit at Oxford University on 27 March.

AI and Care Planning? What You Need to Know

As artificial intelligence (AI) begins to be used more widely, there is increasing interest in using it as a tool to speed up creating care plans.

However, this raises some knotty questions about whether it is appropriate to use AI in this way.

Care plans are highly personalised documents that reflect an individual’s needs (including medical), personal preferences, and safety risks.

AI may generate text, but the jury is still out on whether AI can have the professional judgement and sensitivity required to create safe and tailored care plans.

A Big Thank You and Cheerio to Fiona!

It's time to say a heartfelt thank you and cheerio to our amazing colleague, Fiona, who joined OACP in October 2019 Fiona set up our Trusted Assessor Service initially via a pilot, setting out the solid base for the existing service and she has been a vital part of the OACP family since.

For the last five years, she has led our digital project with incredible passion and creativity. Her time with us has been filled with fantastic achievements. You've transformed the digital landscape for many BOB care providers, boosting DSPT compliance in our area from 2% to 70%. Your innovative ideas and leadership have inspired us all.

While we're sad to see her go, we're excited for her next adventure as part of the national Digital Care Hub. So, this isn't goodbye – just a cheerio.

Thank you, Fiona. We wish you all the best and can't wait to hear about your next success.

The NCSC launched a nationwide campaign on 3rd March urging people and small businesses to toughen up their online security by turning on 2-step verification (2SV, also known as 2FA) for their online accounts.

The campaign encourages people to adopt 2SV as a simple, yet highly effective way to protect their most important accounts and keep the fraudsters out.
