Dear friends,
I'd like to call your attention to an area of dire need in our county. In the video below, I've described the dire situation our farm workers face.
Hardest hit in our pandemic are our farm workers, our immigrant population, and those who work in food service.
Worse, the Latino/Latina/farm worker population suffers from COVID-19 at twice the rate of the general population. Many have lost jobs or income and cannot pay rent for their homes.Take, for example, a single mom of three who spent down her entire life-savings on rent since March...or another single mom of two with terminal cancer who is facing eviction.
In addition to these struggles, accessing services and taking measures to fight the virus is also difficult with the language and income barriers faced by this community.
ApoYolo, part of Yolo Interfaith Immigration Network (YIIN), is an all-volunteer network that assigns a Spanish speaking volunteer to each family to help the immigrant population ApoYolo also pays a portion of the rent to make up the difference between what the family can afford to pay and the amount that is owed. Currently, they are supporting 30 families in Davis and Winters. NOT ONE of these families have lost housing and all are now up to date on their rent.
But YIIN is running out of funds for this program and needs your help to continue...
I understand that we are not all in the position to help right now... times are very hard. If you are in a position to help, however, please help those in critical need stay safe and in their homes.
If you donate to the Yolo Interfaith Immigration Network through Travis Credit Union Foundation your donation will be doubled and the money will go directly to the ApoYolo program.
Be sure to select Yolo Interfaith Immigration Network when you donate. Thank you for your generosity.
Together, we can make it through this while also protecting our most vulnerable.
Sincerely,
Jim
