It’s HOT and your trees are thirsty. Evapotranspiration is moving massive quantities of water out of the soil and into the air. This is how trees actually cool the air in our communities, by releasing water molecules from their leaves (specifically their stomata).
Did you know that about 95% of the water trees uptake through their roots gets released into the air? Only a small percentage gets used for photosynthesis and other key functions.
With all the hot air floating around, 😉 NOW is a great time to give your trees an extra drink of H20.
There is no perfect way to water a tree, other than rain and snow, and giving them something is better than nothing. An easy method is to put a hose at the base of your tree on a trickle and give them a drink once a week. If you forget and leave it there for a couple hours NBD.
As the heat continues into Fall please don’t forget about your trees. Trees and plants are the only organisms cooling our neighborhoods and our cities. We need them to do their thing so we can do our things more comfortably.
